I'm looking at Atoms and having almost purchased a 620R something stopped me. I've always admired them, the company ethos and the opportunity arises to purchase a supercharged 3. I've heard and seen all the stories of them being difficult and although my Caterham was a bit spikey, those of you who have moved from sevens to Atoms, what have you found. I'm fascinated by the Ariel right now.

I had a 1700 Supersprint many years ago.

I'll probably replace the Atom with a Nomad sometime in the future, or possibly another Atom, but I wouldn't go back to a Caterham.

Wrong forum for that question - pop on to the Atom Owners forum and you will find a number who have had Crates and not all are one eyed Atom fans many recognise the strengths of the Crate in driveability etc

I drove one. Hell of a car, very different to a Caterham, but as awesome and more theatre. That supercharged lump is a peach. Smitten.

So what do you think so far?

How would you compare with your SLR?

Surprises?

Embarrassingly, I haven't taken it out yet. Currently away but hoping that the roads are salt free and there's a chance when I return. However. Every where you look there is quality. The pedal box, dash, calipers even the fuse box, it's beautifully packaged and a detailing dream.

Drove a 245 Atom at Palmer Sport back in June and been hankering for one since :-)

Let us know how you find the drive, unless you're going to wait until March, you may just have to get her wet!

I had an R300 Superlight (k-series) last year, and upgraded to a Duratec R400 in late summer ...

Was left wanting more power and so test drove a Caterham 620R last month, and whilst it was very impressive, I couldn't get my head around spending £20k for what was essentially an extra supercharger and the Sadev box. If the 620S had been available second hand at the time, it would have been tempting, but will be a year or so until they reach the used market.

Anyways, I spent an afternoon down at Ariel with Tom (really helpful guy) and ended up leaving having left a deposit on an Atom 3.5 ... which I'm picking up in early March!! Cannot wait to collect it!

Very similar to how I felt and how I ended up with mine.

Congrats and welcome, get yourself onto Atomclub, there's a ton of info and various things being booked up for this year biggrin

Just done the same myself and picked up an Aton 3.5/300 yesterday. I'd like to have tried a 620r but I had doubts about the Sadev gearbox around town.

Hi you can have a Sadev box in almost anything, I put one in my 7 K20 Honda 9800 RPM 265BHP Geartronics paddle shift and it's faultless in town, and faultless clutchless gear changes up and down, downside there's not much change from 9K !It's so good I never fitted my gear lever I just have the paddles.
