There's nothing stopping me from going down this route and changing the colour of the carpet is there? I know that sounds like a rhetorical question, but is there anything else to do with the trim that would look out of place?

My Chim is a 98R in Starmist Blue with blue dash top, and then magnolia seats / tunnel and carpets. Always thought a darker blue carpet (Prussian?) would contrast better, plus as I'm using it as a daily driver, the muck and mud of the winter would be better camoflaged by the darker colour.

Perhaps a dark blue piped with magnolia? Does that make sense?

Sounds nice to me. Won't show the marks as much either.

Worrying when that happens isn't it?! Trouble is I blame my love of silly cars on my Father too..... 6 months of a Chim and I'm dreaming of Cerbies....

Wwesty.... sound deadening????????? Give me a moment to recover... BUY BIGGER SPEAKERS AND SHOUT!

Yeah all done.... want to re-fit the parcel shelf sections as i went spray glue crazy

Ohhh... if anyone wants a differnet colour edging you must tell them as they presume a colour match!

I changed the colour from a rather lovely magnolia carpets set to a moss green.. coz I am old and it doesnt show the dirt.

ROFLMAO!

you misunderstand.....I was puzzled as to why someone with a sports exhaust would want to "deaden" the sound...????

So I guess we agree!!!

Ok. Carpet set has arrived and all 26 pieces are in the bag.

Before I get stuck in can anyone offer any advice? With that many pieces I'm likely to forget where they all go (no, they're not marked).

I've stripped out my old carpet now, and have the new set to go in. I got 27 pieces plus two "offcut" sections for the door panels.

All looks fine, except the drivers side footwell wall section has a precut vent hole where I have no vent. The original carpet had no hole/vent. There is a rumour of an extra cold air vent in some Chims, but not in mine though. I'll just put a patch from my offcuts in to fill the hole (you shouldn't be able to see the join and its all glued back under there anywhere), but for anyone ordering a set check to see if you have this vent or not and let Coverdale know when you order!

The colours on the web site are not entirely comrehensive either, so if you are after a particular colour ask them. I asked three times for blue samples, and only received the colour I settled on once - and it is not listed on the website. Its a very nice blue - I think they called it Jaguar Purple. Their binding has changed colour too, what was Sahara and close to TVR's biscuit vinyl is now a shade lighter and not a bad match for Magnolia.

I've got piles (sorry) of underfelt, and I'm not sure I'll use much of it as there is plenty of foam under the carpets already, which largely had stayed in place. Probably some extra felt under the footwell sections

Seven hours of "fun" Yesterday to get mine in.. as in the previous post I was amused by the extra vent hole that would go into the front wing (?) ..the job ahd its ups and downs. The hardest bits for me were getting the drivers side large inner panel (from the pedals to under the armrest) in straight enough that it was correct at front and back, and the vent still fitted, and also getting the edge around the doors tucked into the rubber edging strip (especially the folded bit over the door mechanisms).

I had to cut some of the panels to fit quite a bit, and I must say I was a bit bemused why some of the clearly symetrical (mirror image) parts of the set were cut completely differently (small upright panels either side of the parcel shelf as an example). On the whole though, its looking OK.. all I have to do now is re-fit the seats and the hood (oh and a Roll bar )

Regarding the felt, I've felted the rear panel between boot and car, the parcel shelf, and under the seats. that should add a bit of sound deadening etc.. I was amazed how loud everything was with no carpet in the car.. at first I thought I'd got a knackered fuel pump, it was so loud !

The best advice I can give anyone trying this themselves is to remember the order that you removed the carpet in, as there is a specific order to putting it back again. It was something like:

Large inner centre tunnel panels either side.
Outer sections below doors
Outer sections in footwells
Lower vertical section behind seats (with the big strip to go over the seatbelt mount pillars not stuck down yet)
Small triangular panels on outer sides of seatbelt mount pillars
Sections covering door mechanisms.
Small vertical triangular panels on inner sides of seatbelt mount pillars
Stick big strips from lower vertical sections over the top of Small seatbelt mount pillars
Large Rear vertical section (behind parcelshelf)
Parcelshelf
Storage Hole "doors"
"Under-seat" Panels
Front "Foot" Mats
..that just leaves the little bit to go in front of the centre console where the air vents are, the piece for behind the pedals on the drivers side, and the piece for the passenger side in front of the battery.

..and thats about it I think

Cheers,
Matt.

Yes, sounds awful familiar! I've exhausted the local TimeBond supplies, so the parcel shelf isn't glued yet.

The driver side tunnel is a b*tch! I gave up and took it out twice before getting it right. I found lining up the air vent and then pushing the vent in to "peg" the carpet, then rotate it into place, worked in the end. I've some nicely bruised ribs from that one. This is not a job for big six footers!

I couldn't get a decent job with the cubby hole covers. Why are the carpet pieces curved when the glassfibre insert in straight? They fit OK, but look a bit flappy at the top. Oh well.

I put felt in all the same places as you. Finding the holes for the seat belts and chairs was fun afterwards. Should have marked them somehow!

The "arms" on the sides of the rear bulkhead section seemed to curve downwards too much. I ended up having to cut a "dart" into one side to get it to fit round the curve. Looks fine in the end (and the dart will be behind the rear screen anyway).

On the plus side I got to reroute all the ICE wiring, which now is pretty much invisible - much neater. And the new carpets look totally amazing, a perfect match for the car colour now. I'll post some pics when I get the dash back together and the rear screen back in. Not sure if they'll do it justice though. The car is Montreal Blue - blue with a hint of purple - and the carpets Jaguar Purple, which is blue .... with a hint of purple! Way, way better than the butterscotch I had fitted originally - what was I thinking of?

Oh, and I have on piece left over. Approximately 6x8 rectangle, bound on two edges. No idea what its for!

..yes, exactly how I acheived it in the end.. and even then getting the little "flappy" bit over the top into the bit where the airvents are was still a nightmare, I had to cut the carpet a bit here to get it to fit

Indeed, they are the weakest bit on my car too.. the whole carpet panel was just a little too big, and slightly the wrong shape. One of mine closes alright, but the other one sits about 1" open but some velcro should sort that out.. the only other thing is that due to the size differences, the edging left showing is quite large compared to the other carpet panels

ditto.. I haven't got the seats back in yet, but I think I'm going to run a drill up through from underneath to make the holes for the seats.

I had a nightmare refitting the roof mind you as the bolts from the boot were not captive so I had to get in above the fuel tank from the boot and put fresh ones in. The TVR Radio aerial, and the CD changer mounts really made me laugh

Yep I've got that one left too ..it goes in the drivers side, by your left knee to cover up that bit of 1" (apx) flexi hose I think.. I missed mine off as I think you'd have to remove the lower dash to get it in properly.

All good fun eh

DONT DRILL THE HOLES!!!!!

The carpet will wrap around the drill bit and unravel like pulling a thread in a wooly jumper!

I poked a sharp implement up from the bottom, then shoved a stanley knife blade into the centre from the top in a star pattern. I then worked a spare bolt through the hole to force any carpet bits out of the bottom.

The ideal way is to punch a hole before you fit, but not realy an option with the lack of precision involved here!

I fitted the even smaller (4x3) section under the dash. I wonder where that bit should have gone then!

Is it the bit that glues round all the electric loom & heater pipes under the dash. - I cable tied mine, having seen all the glue from the original fit.
