But what do you want to know? All turbo conversions are simply great if they are done with some common sense.
Smooth engine character. Lot´s of torque and power and reliable, The turbos won´t boost when driving normally so the
fuel bill will be ok too. The downside is the plumbing when you choose twinturbos, and you will need to fight some underhood temperature
If going twins you will have serveral options at the scrapyard.. Pick the turbo(s) like i did, My 4.6 split in half will be around 2.3 liter like most 4 cylinder turbo cars.. buy two identic ones in good condition and then you have a god start.
My choice is the Mitsubishi.. available, very efficient and no lag. You will find Mitsu TD04 on Volvos and some Saabs.
The Saab TD04HL-15T turbo in twin config is good for 450-500 aggressive horses without pushing them to the limit. (if the engine can flow that amount of air)
I have done some reading about my turbos and the Saab ppl pushing the TD04 charger to almost 300 hp at the wheels on a Saab!
i´ve seen boost numbers up to 1.7Bar but i would never try that on the 15T. I doubt it´s possible to keep that boost all the way to redline! A more realistic maximum boost is more like 1,4 and maybe up to 1,5 BAR
My tiny twins make 400 easy at very low boost.. And the car is seriously aggressive and fun to drive!!
And even the system is far from optimum when it comes to manifold flow and other scientific calculations.. it works great anyway!
What he said. It's not rocket science. A high c/r is good for normal driving, low boost with additionial power boost bhp reward but for bigger power you need to lower the c/r to get massive torque gains. It's really all about what static compression start with.Smooth engine character. Lot´s of torque and power and reliable, The turbos won´t boost when driving normally so the

The plan is to try E85 to increase it further and still be on the safe side, I have prepared everything for that fuel, even the filter
Going to be very interesting to see how much boost i can get with Ethanol

Bump, anyone?
That's not how you work it out. You start with the power you wish to have, then determine the airflow required and then look for suitable turbo/s.With an 8:1 c/r I'd use 7-10 psi. As for the camshaft, any street cam will work. My take is that boost tends to amplify the cams inherent characteristics.
If i remember it correctly my idle vacuum is 14-15 Inch HG

Sounds like more than 400bhp attainable to me..... that's gonna be a monster Mac
You need to join us on track, no way you'll be able to experience the full performance potential on the Queens Highway mate
But are there any lay-bys or car parks on track? just so I can open bonnet and display the 'bling'. You know how it is You need to join us on track, no way you'll be able to experience the full performance potential on the Queens Highway mate

I tried to make my engine as efficient as possible before i started to boost it.. But i also aimed to keep its manner. Too aggressive camshaft can sometimes work really bad.. So i picked a street cam.. I have the Viper typhoon cam for the moment, and i really like it!

OK, really interested in this ZoDDy - did you actually try boosting on an 'aggressive' cam (what are you deeming to be aggressive in this context?), or is this something you've determined from others? Why is the idle vacuum so significant (presumably the turbo is not really an influence at idle and cams with long overlaps make poor vacuums at idle anyway, why would a turbo make that aspect any worse - if that's what you mean)? Can appreciate that manners are an issue (as they are with NA engines when you start pushing them), but looking for real experience of how turbos (not superchargers) work with big cams, as opposed to perceived wisdom...If i remember it correctly my idle vacuum is 14-15 Inch HG

Like i said erlier i´m not a turbo expert so it´s hard to know exactly where the limit for the cam is.
My idea was to use something with less overlap. What i can read in forums the problem is that great camshaft overlap will waste and blow out the boost through the exhaustport. In my case i was not looking for any dragrace performance, i wanted something that works really good on the street with good torque and vacuum. I guess it´s easy to fail or screw up the engine performance and also the manner if you use 106 or 108 degree cams. My Viper cam has a rep to be a great over all performer. So when adding some boost to it, the cam acts the same but the giving me plenty of punch withour sacrifie anything.
My next step in engine development is probably to swap the cam. I have been in contact with the Wedgeshop in US, They have a couple of turbo profiles that looks promising. I´ve tried to simulate the cams and the gain is pretty impressive in the computer world but i don´t have a clue how it will perform in the real? Any camkit like this, won´t come cheap but it might be worth it and it´s fun to experiment too.
I´ve seen ppl experimenting with big cams in turbo motors with success but they where all dragracers. How they work on the street.. i can´t really tell.

Guys, I'd appreciate any thoughts on best cam for a turbo upgrade or would standard 435 be ok as it's not exactly radical. Seen some 'blower' cams advertised and some say a good all rounder is best, thoughts?
Give Rob a call at V8D, I've got a blower cam to go in mine but a Turbo may have a slightly different requirement. Rob knows his st though, so he'll be able to spec you the right one straight away.Huge massive bump
Just re-read the whole thread and some if it (as many of you will recall) was highly bloody comical.
Anyway, with my sudden renewed enthusiasm for going FI I thought I'd bump it, be interesting to hear from some who are a now a bit further down the road (check out the pun) with their installs/developments etc...
'bit further down the road' feck I kill myself sometimes.....
