I was thinking that their "cream" would be a better base colour to start with than black if I was going to dye the seats a dark blue to match my interior but you seem to think that wouldn't be an issue ... in fact I'm wondering whether the black would look too out of place in a complete dark blue interior...

If they are the same covers I looked at, they are "leather effect" and I've read on MX-5 forums that neither the fit nor quality are very good.
I was thinking something like this or this.
one of those chaps is based in shifnal, just a couple miles from me. When i looked at fitting mx5 seats, i was going to use his leather covers. had a look at them, very nice, stock colours only, but for me, the seat base was just a little too tall

That's the information that I was looking for ... Do you know the differences physically between the Mk 1, Mk 2, Mk 2.5 and Mk 3 seats? Is there anywhere that you can recommend to get leather seats that won't rush me for £500? :-)

I was thinking of getting fabric seats and then a set of £200 leather covers...
I'm not too sure on the differences actually mate, but I just got mine because of the speakers and they were cheap - £50 for a pair. Then I think £70 for furniture clinic paint kit (you can go from any colour to any other colour).
They have quite a lof of foam as standard so there are loads of guides online to removing some of this, it lowers the height but also increases the bolster so you're held in tighter.

The seat covers on eBay are good, if you mean the proper sets which actually swap over the leather. They would be a bit of a pain to fit if you haven't done it before though in order to get a nice finish. Just like any trimming I suppose, but take your time and you'll have some brand new looking seats. This is a better option than the furniture clinic kit.

VX220 and elise seats fit as well if thats an option for you.

There's an outfit called Intatrim based in Telford who seem to have a decent range of seats that fit the Chim apparently - if the search is working, they're mentioned on a thread on here somewhere.

No idea how easy they are to fit, but they're well priced, about £450 a pair in leather.

Got Tuscan seats in mine, very nice, but bolted in by prev owner so fixed, have to adjust pedals, wife can't reach....shame smile. Also he paid £500 for a pair, imagine mx5 bit cheaper and easier to come by.

Tuscan seats are really nice, but go for about £800 a pair now for decent ones frown

iirc the mk1 seats sit the lowest.
theyre certainly the ones most people use for replacement seats (be it on a TVR or any other car)

they come in several flavours.
one piece in cloth or leather
and two piece in cloth or leather.

but the dimensions of both types are the same (or very very similar)

one piece ones sometimes have speakers built into the headrests.

they used to be really cheap but people have clocked onto the fact they fit a lot of kit cars, classics and sports cars - so theyre often advertised at higher prices these days.

More great info ... I did kinda like the look of the Mk3 seats and they appeared to have the thinnest seat bases but I haven't actually seen any to check.

Yeah - had seen that on a few forum threads. *IDEALLY* I'd like to try to avoid modifying them if possible... biggrin
