Wipers 2nd speed stopped working after the car's trip to the paint shop in December. Finally got round to sorting it. The inner wing had been painted so the motor must have been removed or at least lifted. Removed the end cover 7mm screws, removed the clamp and propped the motor on a piece of wood. Pulled the plug off the park switch. A little bit of surface corrosion but nothing much.
Took off the end cover and all the insides of the motor were covered completely in rust So pulled the housing off keeping the rotor in place - those magnets are strong. Set too with a wire brush and removed as much rust as I could. Liberal quantities of WD40 helped. Checked the wiring for damage or breaks and all good. Used a thin screwdriver and pushed the brushes back in their housings and let go. They seemed quite stiff and did not return properly. The second speed brush - much smaller and hard to see - at the 6 o'clock position was not in contact with the commutator. So carefully pulled out the rotor turning it as it came out and then removed the brush unit. A couple of minutes cleaning it all up and the brushes were sliding easily again. All reassembled with a blob of grease on the bearings, silicon sealant on the end cap and refitted.
Intermittent, speed 1 and speed 2 all good again

Like to read this sort of stuff a lot. It's what I come to Pistonheads for mostly. Each thread to his own but there's too many threads with contributors basically waving their cheque books in the air. All IMHO of course. I have a wiper motor in the engine bay on my present Chimaera and it's very slow these days so likely needs a bit of attention, so your experiencr will help.

Dizzy,,, arrr to get it to Joolz?Close but no cigar yet
Slowly I’m losing sleep
Balanced pulley though, yum yum
Looked at the car covered in n dust with half the interior ripped out and figured it's time to fix it.
After having an alarm fitted by Carl Baker I decided to refresh the stereo and get the battery on the speedo fixed whilst the dash top was off. Cue one broken amp.
So that's how it sat through the winter, carpet removed to trace wires. I finally ordered a 4 channel amp and have run RCAs to the boot and new speaker wire from the boot to the doors for the front speakers. All in and running via a Pioneer Bluetooth head unit. Includes phone connection and mic which is use able and will stream from Spotify on the phone. Have also installed a cable from the ECU to connect to RS-RV8 app.
Installed the seat belt guides which are wonderful.
Connected the battery to start her up for the first time this year and test the stereo and the fuel pump fails to prime. Quick email exchange with Carl to confirm it won't be the alarm and I'm down in the footwear checking relays, turns out those twenty year old Bosch relays will eventually fail so I've installed a new pair.
Fired up first time, needs a good run though.
Speedo keeps the mileage thanks to a new battery.
Stereo works a dream and is loud enough the most spirited top down driving. I know there is an engine but I like to have the option.
Trim back in tomorrow after a good clean and on the road for next week.
