What did you do in the garage yesterday?

Grazie Ricardo. I will give that a go.
After six months with my car off the road, and having brought it home on a trailer today, I think I might be out on the road, dodging the blackbirds and rabbits, at first light tomorrow.
Well pleased for you. Enjoy the early bird song After six months with my car off the road, and having brought it home on a trailer today, I think I might be out on the road, dodging the blackbirds and rabbits, at first light tomorrow.

All good points.
My policy is actually unlimited mileage, but I am running a new engine in and want to know how many miles I have done.
On the MOT front, I have 364 days to make it move.
I will try the hard thump while driving suggestion, and some fast reversing (only between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm!)

Polished mine too Anyway done a few miles since I changed the oil filter for the third time in as many months. Started off with a genuine Land Rover oil filter but could not stop it leaking past the O ring on the top. So swapped it for a Bosch equivalent but it too leaked from the same place.
So decided to try a Mann filter as the O ring on the top is not round but square section. And no leaks so finally cracked it

Well I finally managed to get mine going after a year or so sat still, hurrah!
Just filled the coolant back up after a radiator change, and changed a couple of plug as they are all bogging. I'll do the rest later.
Also managed to trace the temperature sender wire from the Offenhauser 360 manifold that was put on the car. No idea though if it will give the correct temp for the gauge but the needle did seem to slowly move up which is a good sign I suppose!

Sorted out a drippy radiator hose and then spent 4 hours burning my hands trying to bleed the system.
What way do you turn heater the dial for hot air? I've got no lights on mine and I swear it was to the left for hot and a google image search of dashboards showed a red light on the left and green on the right. Mine blows hot air if you turn the dial to the right, as I discovered after 3 and a half hours
I did change my heater valve a couple of months ago, did I buy a backwards one?

Your not going nuts, yes it's too the left for hot. What way do you turn heater the dial for hot air? This may sound obvious but did you wait a while after putting dial to the right? It will blow hot until the matrix has cooled which on mine is several minutes. What way do you turn heater the dial for hot air? My first entry to this post, yesterday I replaced my NGK BP7ES plugs with the hotter BP6ES. The car hasn't been used or even started in about 18 months (yes, I know), and it fired right up (albeit a few more spins than usual before catching) and sounded good! I didn't know what to expect after all that time, stale petrol, anything. My neighbours haven't heard that distinctive sound for a while, I bet there were some inward groans.
A question; I have never changed the oil on this car myself. If, after a good warm up and dump the oil, I leave it for good long drain, do I risk needing to prime the oil pump and is this risk altered by leaving the filter in situ while it drains? Car is a serp 500
Cheers Mark.
No re priming a serp engine, but I wouldn't leave the engine empty of oil for long though, just my superstition maybe fill your new oil filter before you start, you can get far more oil into it if you fill it and leave it for 10 mins then fill it again.
I find if you get the oil hot it won't take 5 mins to empty so getting the filter ready makes it a 10 min job. Smear some oil around the rubber seal on the filter before screwing on.
The engine will enjoy the new oil
