Not far off starting
Sump back on
Crank pickup mounted
Wide band plugged off
Cooling all plumbed back up
And the Y back on
Some oil and a sump bolt and the jobs a good one

I left the fuel line disconnected when I removed my rocker covers - went into the garage the next morning to a strong smell of fuel, and I'm pretty sure it has been dripping into the engine.
Sump level seems a bit higher and there is definitely a whiff of petrol to the dipstick.

Just a case of doing an oil change before starting it up? I was planning one soon anyway.

Not sure why fuel would run into the engine just because you left a pipe off.

Anyway, if in doubt then change the oil and filter.

Drain all the oil and leave sump and rockers off for a while to ensure evaporation.

If you have the car in a garage, you could sensibly play a fan heater on the side of the block to ensure that all petrol has evaporated.

Yes, I was surprised to be honest.

Probably erring on the side of caution but better to be safe than sorry!

Thanks for the advice.

You naturally get oil contamination through blow by past the rings into the block so not a huge worry.

If really concerned, run up with cheap oil, drain and refill with good stuff.

If the rocker covers were off it would wink with the fuel lines draped over that area scratchchin never ever leave fuel lines open/uncapped frown ambient temp changes fuel behavior and out it comes even if you cracked open the fuel cap

Oil & filter without lifting the car

I didn't think I'd be able to do it but I fancied the challenge. The car currently has no steering wheel as it's with Lee at Trim Unique getting a new skin so moving the car out of the garage was not possible.

Filter removal and replacement from the top was a pig but it's done and very little mess. Oil drawn out using a Pela Oil Vacuum Extractor that I use for my Smart Roadster Brabus daily driver.

Spark plugs tomorrow biggrin

Smart Roadster Brabus! Pocket rocket.

A client of mine was loaned a Renault 5 GT Turbo when his Alpine A610 was in for service. I asked him how he found it. “It'll be great when I get the one for the other foot” he said.

I put a clutch in a Renault 5 GT Turbo once, worst job ever!

In the end I lifted the car as high as possible supporting the shell with extra tall lorry axle stands, I then dropped the whole engine & trans on its subframe using a pallet and a forklift.

I worked on the whole engine/trans/subframe assembly out of the car on a stack of pallets, even like this access was a complete nightmare frown

Never again nono
