Finally finished fitting the ACT twin plenum, after the Sunday’s drama dropping a hex socket down one of the trumpets weeping

TPS and new stepper now tested on ECU, so just waiting for a start tomorrow, hopefully. just praying for no vacuum leaks.

Just realised I haven’t reconnected this wire that used to attach to the throttle assembly on the old plenum. Not really sure what it’s for though?

Clearly just an earth created by a previous owner, it's not a TVR original, just ground it to the engine block or N/S cylinder head.

Extend it as required.

Looks smart! I've recently finished removing and refitting mine after painting the rocker covers.

What did you use to seal the carbon to the base? And how tight did you go with the small bolts?

I used a cork gasket and blue hylomar - I think I'm safe on the air leaks but need to check in a bit more detail to be sure!

Phazed has removed his triple loads of times and when I looked he used a cork gasket with some sealant. I think you should be fine.
As an indication at full throttle and high revs the incoming air can travel at speeds approaching the sound barrier,,,, mines so fast I think I hear a sonic boom biggrin

Cork and a smear of Hylomar.

If you need to remove it, i usually use an old, very thin carving knife that you can slip in between the gasket and the aluminium trumpet base, gently work it down one side and then it usually pops off .

All I did yesterday was put fuel in the car and at about 6 PM headed off to the only deserted bit of coast for an hours stroll with Mrs phazed before the Sun went down.

Roof off, beautiful sunny weather, I can’t remember the last time it was this Nice!

The drive back in the dark reminded me of how rubbish, (compared to modern) the lights are.

I have the faired in setup with I believe the Halfrauds increased output lamps.

Has anyone successfully fitted better, HIDs, LEDs?

On the lighting topic, I came across a 50s Thunderbird convertible driving without any lights on, just with hazards in the pitch dark!

I flagged him down and coincidentally he lived about 3 miles from me so I drive in front of him for the last 10 miles back.

What a beauty, all in black with a gorgeous soundtrack!

I find Ring 120% brighter bulbs give me better light than on my daily Saab and got me home happy on Saturday. I had Osram Nightbreakers previously, but these are way better.

I have had some Bosch white light H4's for about 8 years (cant remember what model) and the light output is blinding (pun intended) not up to modern standards but pretty damn good on unlit roads , but my lenses are A1 inc the glass scratchchin just reminded myself they have lasted well which probably means I will have one blow shortly irked

Aaarrggh!!!!!

Tested tonight, first start since December and it started first time on the key, with no need for any throttle. No sign of any obvious vacuum leaks from the new plenum and it stalled instantly when I blocked the stepper hose. All seemed good just needed to adjust the idle and good to go, or so I thought!

Tried to give it a few revs and nothing happened other than it running extremely lean. Turns out the ECU isn’t picking up the TPS signal, despite testing it before installation. Looks like one of the pins has come loose on the loom side of the TPS plug. Managed to temporarily push it back in to test via the laptop, but don’t have the access to rewire it with out removing the plenum. banghead

Well at least I found it now and not later. Suspect it wouldn’t have been a pleasant experience if the ECU lost connection and full open throttle!

Fortunately I ordered a spare plug for the loom, which I’ve now fitted and tested. Just cleaning up the plenum to refit tomorrow.

I replaced the reflectors and lenses recently , also fitted the ring 120 bulbs which has made a huge improvement, my headlights are now better than our golf.
I thought I had set them a bit high but I have never been flashed and it passed the mot.
There was a couple of guys selling them in the classifieds about half the price of the normal Tvr suppliers.

My reflectors were replaced about 20k miles ago when the previous owner fitted the faired in lights. They are in great condition.

I will try a pair of uprated bulbs/lamps.

It’s been a frustrating couple of days trying to get the carbon twin plenum fitted properly. After the issue with the TPS plug, I fitted it again yesterday, seemed ok at idle, but ran really lean as soon as it was revved, off the scale of my AFR gauge.

Managed to trace the vacuum leak to between the plenum base plate and the trumpet base. Refitted again last night and tested it this morning but still having the same issue. Think I’ll try the black gasket maker next time instead of the hylamar blue for the trumpet base joint, which will hopefully give a better seal.
