Remote boot release
Discussion
My remote boot release has given up the ghost. I've changed the batteries in the fob for known good batteries and no difference.
The boot opens fine if I push the button under the steering column.
Any ideas what could be wrong as I have zero idea when it comes to elcectrics and I don't suppose it helps that this is obviously an after market fitment as I don't think these came as standard from the factory.

MY Chimaera boot opener works on a magnet within the fob that you put next to the number plate whilst the alarm is off.

I've got the same system, I used a magnetic reed switch used by model train enthusiasts to change points.Adrian@
Take the live off the interior light to fire the boot solenoid, when you wave a small magnet over the reed switch the boot pops.
The interior light is only live once you've unlocked the car with the fob, so the system is dead once the car is locked.
Massively more convenient than the factory set up, easy & cheap to install too

Just wire one of the switches up to the interior light & tape it to the back of the numberplate, add a small neodymium magnet to your key fob and it'll activate the reed switch through the plastic numberplate no trouble at all.

The whole thing should cost about £3.00 and take a leisurely 20 minutes to fit.

What size magnet do you recommend?

I did not realise that there was any other version available, I thought that was THE 'version' from Carl, along with my LED boot lights which is reed switch operated too.

The magnetic release and the LED boot light(s) are from David Beer (Modwise). Andreas Griff has them both including 2 boot lights (1 either side) as 1 isnt bright enough.

Must rig up some boot lights, the modwise boot release I have is a welcome addition
I fitted this:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LLOYTRON-LARGE-CUPBOARD-...
I used Velcro tape (hook side) so it grips to carpet on the underside of the boot lid, you can then angle the lights so they point into the boot void.
Fitting it with the Velcro tape makes it easy to remove and use as a camping lantern or inspection light.
You can set the light to come one with movement so it only works at night when you open the boot, it runs on AA batteries which last for ages & means it can't drain your car battery leaving you stranded.
If you buy the grey one it'll blend into the boot lid carpet so well you'll never know it's there.... until that is you need it, at which point you'll wonder how you ever did with without a boot light.

How do they trigger?
I used a small simple on/off latching switch, purely so I could guarantee it was off when the lid is shut etc.I could of used reed switches/motion sensors so it activates on boot opening but chose the switch purely for 100% peace of mind that it was off when it should be amd therefore no chance of battery drain.

Look for a blown fuse, they probably powered the remote activation from a different circuit to the dash button?
Give that man a virtual pint for telling me (correctly) to check the blooming obvious. Then give the man who put the fuse box there a kick up the arse!

It works well on auto mode but you can also put it on manual mode which seems to help the batteries last longer, just touch the switch to turn it on.
Another top tip would be to use Energizer lithium batteries, they're a lot more expensive than regular alkaline AAs but they last so much longer I feel they're well worth the extra.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-ENERGIZER-AA-x-4-LIT...
All in all you'll have a cheap reliable boot light that doesn't drain your car battery & leave you stranded if you forget to turn it off.
