Converting to Megasquirt
Discussion
Its been a plan of mine for ages to get the Chimaera converted to run Megasquirt fuel and ignition. I know people have many opinions on ECU's, but I want a DIY system that I can fit and tune myself, and don't have thousands to spend, hence my choice
I want to go the whole hog and remove the dizzy, AFM, and totally replace all of the engine bay wiring loom as it is so old and crusty I have no confidence in it. Also when I plan to supercharge in the future it means I am ready to map and make the most of the conversion straight away.
Who is the best to buy the kit from (I am interested in buying the whole kit from one source to avoid any compatability issues)? ExtraEFI and Megasquirt-V8 have come up in google searches but i know little of either company.
Any other tips and info welcome

I have absolutely no knowledge of the megasquirt so cant comment i do know daz has ditched his for an emerald which is what i would recommend you appear to be in bedfordshire so not to far from emerald they will give you a base map to get the car running then you can either play yourself or take it to watton for the full treatment

Email Phil Ringwood, ExtraEFI.
You won't go wrong with Phil.
Can't remember if Phil does the loom, if not then Shaun, MS2Tuning will do you the loom and map as well.
They are both tried and tested and work hand in hand.
Full back up and used by many on here.
I'll second this no question.... Phil lives 20 mins up the road from me, and both Phil and Shaun have mapped beastie for me while I've driven at various stages of beasties development... Shaun also put the loom in when he was at V8D when the new lump was built by Rob You won't go wrong with Phil.

I'm no expert (far from it) with ECU's and mapping, but these guys know their stuff and are top blokes.... highly recommended...

What about voltage offsets ? Due to a very poor instalation I decided to rip the lot out .. . sold it all to Brett .
Jools built me a loom ,fitted the Emerald and mapped it and made me some bespoke leads ,over the moon especially with my the switch for changing maps on the move .
Top job and at reasonable cost .
junk out

I know a new Chim owner who is looking for a 14CUX ECU. His car was parked nose down on a steep slope in an overnight downpour, and he didn't spot the two inches of water around the ECU when he came to restart the car.
Any of you guys who have already gone aftermarket got a spare for sale please?

Mine's sat on the shelf BUT it has the MA Tornado conversion and the chip is for a 400SC. A suitable chip would be needed.Any of you guys who have already gone aftermarket got a spare for sale please?
PM me if it's of any interest.
+1 here for Shaun O'Donnel.
Incredibly helpful and patient giving advice every few months when I got around to progressing the build a bit more. He did my loom and I (slowly) converted the car. When it was time to get it running he was able to do some basic setup remotely via Team Viewer so that I could drive to my MOT and then spent a day with me getting it running perfectly.
I have NO complaints whatsover about how it behaves, my spec is 4.6 with big valves and a typhoon cam, it is docile and easy going low down then flies at the top end.
Shaun was also able to identify some maladies with my alternator which got fixed on the day ... a massive bonus.
I was worried about reports of starting problems etc but really, my Chimaera is better than I expected so yes, I'm happy!
