I'm replacing a seatbelt in a 4.0 on the passenger side. What does the bolt screw into that retains the belt receptacle (the bit held against the gearbox tunnel?) The bolt has rusted to the seatbelt bit and turns the whole assembly when I try to undo it. I am applying Plusgas to try and free it up. Does the bolt go through the tunnel and screw into a metal bracket on the chassis? I tried looking underneath the car but couldn't see anything.

Yes, there is a threaded mount, welded to the chassis

As hill climb said as I've just literally fitted mine. They should bolt directly into a welded in section to the chassis which is threaded. I have no doubt however many of this the threads will have been corroded thus when this happens the thread are drilled then a nut and bolt straight through, which sounds like, it's spinning around. Could have happened.

I'm not at the car right now but I think if you go underneath you will see the exhaust plate (flat plate two large holes cut out), again not with the car so off the top of my head the nut you looking for will be hidden because of that plate.

Lets play 'glass half full'.
The bolt is moving but the latch stalk is turning with it. Undo it as far as you can so the stalk will now be laying along the floor. Take a drift or chisel and hit the stalk just below the bolt head. Once you have it moving the bolt should just undo.

I've not yet seen a car where this fixing has been drilled through and a long bolt/nut fitted.

That bolt gets lots of oily stuff chucked at it, the rust is likely caused by water sitting behind the seats as in bad weather when these cars were newer and leaked a lot. As said above sharpe tap and free the belt from bolt then judicious use of muscle as you loosen the bolt off, if it's very tight it will get hot as your loosening it, take your time and don't overload the bolt with force or you'll be snapping it, ask me how I know. Avoid that at all cost.
I snapped the outside bolt that goes through outrigger and it was brute force/stupidity and being impatient doing too many stiff turns and bolt sheared off like chocolate, head of bolt was very warm!!! After a number of attempts drilling that bolt out I think I've learned my lesson.

The bolt your talking about was much easier to remove so if you've got it moving I'm sure it's good and once belt is freed off it will come out by hand within a few turns.

Just thought I'd mention the worst case senario because fine threaded bolts corroded are weak as p1ss! if gotten hot smile

As previous replies,

When going through my boxes of bits I found the seat belts and both anchorages still had the sheared off head of the bolt still in them. Hopefully if your bolts appear to be loosening then with some penetrating fluid and care, they should come out without shearing.

Did it. Ended up using my air impact wrench to break it free. Had it on a low pressure setting and just slowly upped it until it broke free. Internal thread on the chassis bracket all good and cleaned up with a thread chaser. Ready for the new belt stalk. Thanks for the input. 👍🏼
