more updates body is off and the engine gearbox and final drive are all out and the suspension is all stripped down so chassis will be off to the shotblasters prior to being put on my jig for the remedial work which is mainly replacing the outriggers rad is out the body to be sent off recore next job on the body is strip out the dash which needs a fair bit of attention to the gauges and the dash panels themselves but so far so good also stripped the box off the engine clutch looks good to go again but will take advise

John,
My first question to you was to be about the fuel return line, but instead I'll ask it on here as others may be able to help as well.

In your photo.....

Is the said pipe shown running from by the engine to the back along the top round frame tube?

PO on mine fitted it along the lower rect' frame tube and found it was in the way when refitting the body so now it is not continuous(been cut).

Looks like it's going to be a bugger to run in the correct position with the body on, anybody got any advice?(mines off the ground now).

Cheers
Lance
cool

no it runs rubber first to a joint by the bellhousing then in copper along the outside of the bottom tube then rubber up into the tank if you expand the picture you can see it quite well.

Is that chassis a viable repair ? Shotblasting might reduce it to a pile of ferrous oxide !

looks bad with all the peeling powder coat but rely only the outriggers rest is sound unless shotblasting shows something different but i suspect not

What is even more impressive John is the "not a spring chicken " factor!

When you look at the car in that poor condition, there must be a point where it just isn't economic sense to salvage the car from the point of view of a business proposition.

Of course, there are many of us who put in countless hours of effort that we will never recoup but are happy to do so for our own car and our personal satisfaction .

bit more done to car stripped out the dash radio and surrounding switches, just a heap of rust but remarkably all still work other than the radio, steering wheel boss took hell and all to get off but no more to strip out now so all down hill from here, got the heads off and the cam out which needs replacing as two lobes gone and most of the followers showing signs of wear through the case hardening but rest of the lump looks good and clean other that the block badly corroded inside will need pressure testing before spending any money on the engine,a cautionary note to all see the silicone sealant in the oil pick up filter seeing this all to often great for me lots more rebuilds but do if you have to use it be very very sparing kiss of death otherwise.

Well, how much worse can it get!

That car really is only worth the sum of the body shell and a handful of parts!

You really have your work cut out on this one John, I can see your rubbish bin filling rapidly!

well nasty job sorted now finished stripping the crank and pistons from the block and removed all the heavily rusted core plugs and hot pressure washed the corrosion out of the water ways dosent look to bad, block away for pressure testing keeping fingers crossed on that one but my gut felling is should be ok tackle the heads next broken studs etc.

latest update the heat insulation in the engine bay is mostly stripped off the rear seems to be in good order, the wiring has been stripped out of its sheathing to allow me to keep the alternator and starter connections the rest will be replaced with the new emerald loom, i have removed the door cards which wasent to bad to do as it has large speakers making getting your arm in the door somewhat easier to undo the bolts securing the card also tested the window motors which work fine and have stripped just over half of the rotten carpet backing, as an aside has anyone any experience of these carpet sets which one can purchase if so are they any good, plus the engine is now virtually complete all the internals are in heads on so coming along nicely.

That last picture is interesting and explains why no air comes out of my centre vents by the gear stick.

Mine must also be one hose going from side to side meaning the center vents are just ornaments.

Not necessarily.

Mine has center vents but no hose under the bonnet. This is how the later cars are, and have the ducting built into the bodywork.

My center vents leak hot air all the time which is great in winter to warm your hand on the gearstick but a pain in the arse otherwise.

At peak times I think I'll just get a can of expanding foam and discharge it in the vents smile
