Yes but I need to find out the CR of my engine.
Is that kit still forsale on fb?
I think your compression ratio is far too high otherwise you wouldn't have such great performance.

That's very impressive on an engine with good milage and standard induction.

"Lovely to drive" my 4.6 on Mbe and 885 display similar wonderfully easy properties from 900-6000 revs and as these lines show is very smooth to drive and indeed lovely to own. smile

Reading this thread with great interest, as I'm hopefully going to see about getting the cam changed in my 4.0 this coming winter.

The only slight complication with mine is that there is a slight uncertainty as to whether it's a 4.0 or a 4.0 HC - car was purchased on the basis of it being a 4.0, but does have a 400 HC badge on the plenum. Seller wasn't sure, which I took to mean it's likely just a case of a badge swap, but no way of checking presumably without looking at the pistons.

Either way, it's at 76,000 miles and definitely feels a touch 'flat' above 4000rpm so a new cam is definitely in the pipeline.

My main idea so far (assuming mine is a normal 400) has been to go for the MC1 - but this topic is giving me plenty of food for thought! scratchchin

Bore scope down a plug hole will tell you what you need to know if you have eyebrows/valve reliefs cut in the piston the field just got bigger for cam choice wink my advice on a stock motor dont go too radical with your cam choice

Just to add - you can get USB endoscopes on eBay that work with your smart phone for less than a tenner. Worked a treat on mine to prove I have no pockets and it's a bog standard 400...

I might check while it has it's 12k service next month in that case. Nope didn't want anything radical, but if there were any mild improvements to be made via the cam change (for little cost difference over OEM) I figured I may as well!

I'll look at the 885 cam then, seems a popular one!

Anything else worthwhile doing with the engine out? Body coming off too but that'll be another thread ;-)

If your engine bay heat shields are knackered it's a good time to replace them. Also check engine mounts, and have the exhaust manifolds thoroughly checked for leaking welds.
Clutch is another good thing to replace if the engine is out. Saves some of the labour cost.

Does anyone know how much lift the TVR 435 cam should be giving?

Just pulled the cam out and it's got a vernier timing set and immaculate lifters. I've got about 7.2mm on each cam lobe. Does that sound about right?
