I used to say that about early Minis.....at 21 I drove an 850 mk1 to Naples and back.
Then in 2002 I bought one for a friend's teenage son, and had to drive it, on a summer Friday afternoon in a thunderstorm, from Cambridge to East Wales.....I stopped just off the M6 around Birmingham after 4 hours of driving in crawling stop start traffic, with my knees under my chin, stepped out of the car and fell over - my right leg had gone completely to sleep. How on earth, as a teenager, did I/we do so much in such a cramped car? confused

Well.....I got married in 1973 and went on my honeymoon in my £80 1963 grey Minivan - floor starter and direct gear lever. Set off from Sleaford and drove to Keswick - no problems. Next day went exploring and the clutch started slipping. Spent a week driving up and down hills trying to keep the clutch alive. Got home and scrapped the car.

Thought you were going to say "got home and scrapped the wife".

My 67 Mini had the direct gear lever too, about a yard long. And the floor mounted dip switch for the head lights. The wires came off that going down Mt Vesuvius in the dark in 1974. I knew immediately what had happened, as I had just hit the switch with my left foot to dip the lights. Much to the girlfriend's horror, I leaned down without even stopping and pushed them back on again.

My wife is Scouse and is called Michelle. She hates being called Shelly especially spoken in a Scouse accent. I tried to make a joke about both her and the car being loud and unpredictable but she deosn't see the funny side of it.

Great looking car OP, with allegedly the best engine option also.

A note of caution though, your front o/s tyre seems to be on backwards judging by the tread, it would channel water to its center.

I've checked the tyres and all is good, "outside" is written on the outside of all. I've has this before with some Vreds, my understanding is the tyre doesn't have to channel water to the outside, it just has to channel water away fro the centre of the tyre.

Yes, when I said 'channel to its centre' I didn't mean to the car's centre if that's what you mean, but the middle of the tyre. Perhaps you have the same hand tyre on both sides of the car IYSWIM. Anyhoo, I hope you enjoy the car, in fact I know you will! smile
