Hi Guys

Does anyone know if you can put TVR 4.0 heads on a RR 4.6 with compression gaskets?

Still looking for a solution to having no engine. any thoughts welcome ....

Why would you? The last "TVR" head I saw on a 4ltr was a bog standard Range Rover one, without any porting work at all.

Yes.
There may be a benefit in raising the CR if the 4.0 TVR head is 28cc as opposed to maybe 34cc in the range rover head. Obviously best to measure twice though

Nothing wrong with that combo not all 450 Chimaera's had BV's or head work anyway scratchchin compression will remain stock i.e late 8's CR regardless of what your block was stamped using compo's

Thanks guys.

New to the TVR and Rover V8 - but I have the top end of the 4.0 which looks immaculate. as im missing the bottom end, I want to take the opportunity to use 4.6.

How do I measure the heads to know the size? anyone take a guess at what number the 4.6 with 4.0 heads may produce?

Are they 10 bolt heads or 14.

The earlier 14 bolt heads have a bigger combustion chamber of 36cc.

The later 10 bolt heads were 28cc.

Apart from that there`s little or no difference.

You would have to measure the cc of your heads as they may well have been skimmed over the years thereby reducing the cc even more. Then do your maths to get the CR you want.

I can tell you that 10 bolt 400 heads on a 4.6 with composite gaskets and an MC1 cam will give gobs of torque and make a very drivable real world engine. Might run out of puff when spun out 'though... (all done and dusted well before 5k rpm but just change gear earlier)

thanks both - much appreciate!d!

So dependant on the heads looks like this is my plan.

Would I need to do anything to the 4.6 straight out of the Range Rover ?

You need a different cam + followers and you might need double valve springs and some modding to make them fit. Your 400 heads should have that already.
