Next race meet maybe - 22/23 July @ Shakey

I've just got home, great to make some new friends and catch up with some old ones, some awesome cars there, especially Neil's hats of to you that some piece of kit you've built.
I'm so glad I finally got to run the car in anger and it never went wiz pop bang. Crap launches and loads of wheeel spin, managed 3 runs now of to the garage to tinker some more .

Great car Richard, we need more of this speed freak madness.
Today went well and plenty to see and watch. They all tend to start leaving Sunday lunch time so this afternoon allowed more runs per car.
Frank and his lad turned up the wick but a side wind had some effect although Frank did break his fastest time and was far happier with his performance. It was nice to meet up with Trev today and all the lads yesterday.
No sign of superstar Daz which was a pity but another time I'm sure

Well my research trip to learn about driving in a straight line was a bit of a eye opener turns out that it's much harder than I thought, still I really enjoyed my day out and will come back and have a go next time. Good to meet a few new and old faces.
It was worth the journey just to see the jet car in action, not sure how this beast got on though.

Not sure about the lads but the young girl in the Fiesta ( all original ) 1100 was aiming at high 19's
The only addition was a Rev counter as she can't hear the engine trailered there too, mad drag family as she mentioned her dad etc. I really admire these people except I wanted to burn the shed !
Rocket car did 255mph or so, 1/4 mile !!!!! I won't forget that thing in a hurry,,,, boom

Post mortem.
Run 1, 12.37 Seconds, 0-60ft 1.98, terminal speed 115.38
Run 2, 12.29. ". , ". 1.87, ". ". 115.33
Run 3, 12.13. ". ". 1.78, ". ". 115.40
Run 4, 12.06. ". ". 1.73. ". ". 115.37
All on 10 year old R1Rs.
I don't reckon I could better that by anymore than a few hundredths of a second on those tyres.
I think it is absolutely amazing that the terminal speeds were a few hundreds of a second of each other.
You do your best get off the line, change gears as quick as possible, flooring the throttle and terminal speeds are practically the same! Really strange!
Enough rambling, I still didn't beat Daz's 12.03!
I have got lots of excuses, old tyres, lower geared diff etc but the truth is, Daz gets his car up the strip quicker, well done that man!
I was seriously thinking of selling this car but after using it in anger yesterday and driving it swiftly today down winding country lanes, I can't think of another car that is as quick and that handles so well.
It's also because I, like a lot of people on here put so much into their cars, it really is part of us/them and I think that I would regret it..............we'll see.........

The numbers are fascinating.
Diff,,, big advantage for this stuff. Daz is a demon driver though.
Your still very quick to the 60ft and I'd be proud of that fast consistency on those tyre's. That's there limit.
I find if I get a good start or not terminal is aboot the same.
Something's always bugged me, first few goes at Shakey last year I was really slow off the line with wheel spin but managed 110 mph and I've only ever managed 109 since with much faster get always. Wind,,, not my excuses but wind at these high speeds maybe but that doesn't add up as it was a tail wing last time I drove??!!
I think your gears aren't as slick as Daz or mine for that matter, you say it's a bit heavier Peter, any time loss there is going to do damage to your overall time for sure. Daz changes super fast and it's very smooth.
He's a class act at this game that's for sure.
13.3,,,, congratulations Frank, that's fast. My first weekend I managed 13.1 and was very happy with it.

He also runs his car lower ride height or so it looks on track which does promote better air flow, can't imagine it makes a great deal of difference. He's got a very fast engine and diff combo that's for sure.
Your car looked ace yesterday Peter, sounds the nuts and is the Mark of a man half your age which is what you are
Look how it went at Curb, you'll never have a better car for what you like to do and your times there were spectacular. Its not just about pulling power alone.
Your spoiler might actually create some down force which is very good but not at Shakey!
It looks the business and that's the main thing

The right hand lane was faster. More sun and less protection from the earlier wind dries it out faster and today both Frank and his son did fastest times in the right hand lane after a number of attempts in the left hand lane. You need that bite when getting into second gear and the right lane seems to give more grip over the first 330 in my opinion. The trouble is it's subject to more wind dependent on direction but usually the bund bank on the left helps that lane so hmmm!
Great craic racing and collecting these time tickets for contemplation over mods and the like.
Having had a go,, 1/2 a second is miles faster so every tenth is valuable engineering advances showing themselves.
Neals car,,,, like the rocket today, way way out there. Such a shame we got rained off yesterday.

I do go on BUT
All this shows is how fast you were when you set PB's Peter. I value that leaderboard for what it is. Excellence
Look at the motors on it for a start.
I think you get to where the car is and basically pack up or add more power.
So as I think I've found my cars safe limit on the drag strip I'd now be doing it simply to share the experience and weekend with other Tvr owners. I'd probably look to do limited runs and just enjoy the time in the sun with everyone else there. It's families, friends, people who, want a bit of alternative from the norm, want to feel a crowd ( if there was one ) actually watch you go racing and fluff it up... there's nothing like it
Lining up for a race over a yard or a mile is a race and the start is hugely adrenaline filled and something we should all feel at least once in our lives.
As a Tvr owner we should all see it as a right of passage and once you've done it know yourself and your car a lot better. Extreme ain't the word.
As trying to break my PB is going to be hard I'm getting interested in the competition to try and get closest to your chosen given time. There's often money to be won. It might make your runs a very interesting concept, not quite flat out so saving car a bit and still a target to aim for, imagine winning £500 and as you show Peter you are very consistant,,,, 500 nicker,,, think about it

That's all very true Alun.
I too am going to give my car a rest now and will do more spectating/encouraging
I don't mind doing sprints and track days as I think that is the natural habitat for our cars but the strip shows the least mechanical sympathy.
I had a lovely drive yesterday afternoon and strangely the car seemed to get better after a couple of miles after it had shaken off all the trauma of shaky
Back to basics.
My quickest run on MTs showed a 2/10ths of a second improvement, just what Derek told me some time ago!
Best run, 11.83 seconds, 0-60ft 1.65, terminal speed 114.81.
That is really strange that my turminal speed was a fraction down!
If I remember right we had a slight headwind there so the time may have been slightly better given better conditions.
This can all be dissected and reduced down but at the end of the day you just have to get lucky with a good launch, good gear changes, good conditions and nail it to the end!
Barrie had back luck with a blown turbo seal but I suppose when you are running high boost there is the opportunity for the weakest link to give up.
Real bad luck as his fastest time is epic especially considering that he is running standard drive shafts!

Barry is the mechanical sympathy genius,, his cars so fast he just rolls off the line then floors it and I'm sure he's feathering that
You mention terminal speeds which also flummox me somewhat.
Hers something knowone wants to hear, de cat y fitted, car did exactly the same terminal speed and times as with standard catted Y.
Work that one out.
So this big restriction isn't actually a restriction on my car with standard ports,,, the terminals are the same all the way up the track.
But it feels faster on the road, weird.

Maybe a noise thing?
When I decated my 4.6, (which had my stage 4 heads fitted) I saw a 20bhp increase.
With all these systems, you are looking for the restricting factor. With my old engine I eventually worked out that stage 3 heads were the restriction that made any other upgrade pointless. When I decated my 4.6, (which had my stage 4 heads fitted) I saw a 20bhp increase.
