Hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on my latest problem, obviously this car isn't used to being used!
The metal spring/chain that is wound up and down by the motor seems to have become detached from the motor and wound too far so it is partly out of the runner (why didn't I take a picture).
I've taken the door card off (second time in the last few months) and can see the problem but not the solution.
Any ideas?

I think it is possible the wire can push out of the channel if the window is stiff and you try to wind the window up.
See if you can get the window to go up and down whilst pulling/pushing the glass.
Motor factors can supply spray silicon grease specifically for window runners a few shots of this may cure the problem.

You'll have to remove the whole lot from out of the door including the door glass if you can't get it back into it's channel.
It is a wire spiral that drives the plate holding the glass up and down. Not as daunting as it sounds, but very fiddly. There are several threads on here if you search. Here was mine removed.
The spiral can catch at the bend and I made sure there was extra grease here:
