Put on my new baffled sump from sifab but the dipstick is struggling to go down the last 4" as it's hitting a plate.

With some wiggling it'll go in but won't read oil level so it may be sliding across the top of the sump plate. Pic below.

Any ideas how to fix?

Yes, remove the sump and rectify, send it back. This is the obvious remedy. Or, fill with a measured amount of oil whilst being confident you aren't using any and do frequent refills. The former is the obvious solution for your car and other customer cars.

If you dont want to return the sump , remove it , line the dipstick side of it with Plasticene and refit with a few bolts ........insert dipstick as far as you can then remove sump .........note mark in Plasticene then drill a 10 mm hole where mark was , refit sump , open cold beer

I'm starting to dislike taken the sump off. But I think the DIY route is the best option. Once I get a new dipstick as so much bending snapped handle of the old one.

Holy st racetech dipstick is 35 ex vat and shipping

I'll try and weld it back

OP, why are you buying expensive dipsticks, won't something ordinary do the job? It should just slide smoothly into position :-)

Amazing how fast expensive replacements motivate you! Just went to garage and welded it together.

Did measure it and it's 2mmx5mmx560mm length (tip to housing).

How nice can it be if something as simple as dipstick alignment is wrong.

Rimmers sell a selection of dipsticks without a TVR tax. Don't know if any are the correct length but sure they could measure them for you?

Yep at to mod mine too rolleyes I have the same extended front like in shot to accommodate windage tray (also fitted) I expect the unexpected with this after-market stuff TBH scratchchin marked the baffle with some marking blue bolted the sump up quick then then just pushed the dipstick down until it struck the baffle removed sump then relieved material from the witness mark wink bloody annoying all the same, even the tray tags need tweaking because two of the lugs did not line up with the block drillings

I did see that too but the weld is strong although burnt through the hat cover but will add a tapered bung.

Just astounded at 42 quid for a dipstick, as has beeb said a generic one cut to length would have been fine or even better is to use fish tape wire, cut to length and mark min/max. Eg

Ps like the windage tray a lot!

Bought mine from Mulfab. No trouble fitting it (well, my manservant, passepartout and chief engineer had no trouble, and liked it a lot).

They only sell one from an MGB V8 and its too short.

I have it sitting in my garage.

I’ve also got a Mulfab one as purchased in the group buy a couple of years ago others above have mentioned
No problems with dipstick although I regret not going for the larger capacity one now.
And I should have painted it as it’s rusting away like a good un!

Can't you add a couple more litres of oil and then it'll show on the dipstick? silly
