That is good to hear - and just to be sure, as was mentioned earlier by another poster, I hope you put the correct paste behind the amplifier when you installed it. The paste allows the heat to conduct effectively back in to the housing of the distributor. If you do install it without the pasted it will run, and may even last a few days - but it will fail. (I know it was a couple of weeks back, but sounds like you aren't putting a lot of run time on it, so thought it is best to ask so you don't have disappointment when you bring it back out in the spring). Cheers.

Yes, paste used and i also have a replacement in the garage should the same happen again.

I've got giddy on the back of this so just ordered replacement Bosch HT leads as the current ones are non branded blue leads. You will probably all be needed again to help fix whatever mess I get into this weekend. smile

Holy thread resurrection - having just suffered a similar fate to mine - followed the diagnostics on this thread, bought myself with a new amp and now have a working car again

Well I say that - my tachometer now is very erratic (you fix one thing and another crops up)

Just a thanks to all for this thread as it got me out of a problem

Shame about the tacho

If it was working before the new amp was fitted there is a good possibility that some dodgy wiring has been disturbed

manage to resolve it

I re-routed the king lead over two other wires (it went between them before) as I wasn't happy with the layout...

undid this re-route and the tacho is now working again, the only thing I can think of is the wires between the king lead takes the pulse and converts it to the tacho... or.... I have re-settled the wires I previously un-settled and its magically fixed

either way tacho is perfectly in tune again - happy man here

I’ve just ordered this for my ‘97 450 Chim.

Does anyone know if the paste comes with it? If not, is there a Amazon product that’ll suffice?

Ta.

If it don't use use decent computer CPU heat transfer paste , it's far better than the often supplied crap too , example https://www.amazon.co.uk/Antec-Formula-X-Thermal-C...

The racetech item is probably one of these, original Lucas stuff isnt made any more but some old stock does pop up on eBay from time to time.
I don’t know where the new stuff is made but it isn’t the same quality.

Just for others fitting another ignition amp, I found the intermotor part (£23 ~) made a world of difference vs the "lucas" part I had bought previously that was not lucas. Fitted with computer CPU paste and not the supplied.

The perfect answer on stock/Lucas distributor is the Bosch 0221122392 but they seem to be impossible to find.

There are therefore a few other options, but worth looking at the official TVR suppliers as a start point (TVRSSW, Racetech, Motaclan), but there is plenty of doubt on how long these coils last. Thankfully they're not horribly expensive.

I've also seen some chat about the Viper dry ignition coils being worthy of exploration.

Then I saw your other post on finding the fuse board and a new ECU - you might have electronic ignition as part of that change, in which case I believe you won't have a coil in the traditional form...?
