My insurers, Classic Line, have not batted an eyelid at my engine changes or modifications.
Just make sure that when you answer the questions on the proposal form very truthfully, the BHP increase over standard does not exceed 150%. Once over this power increase the premium takes off. Just sayin'.... wink
Useful information, thanks.
I did of course volunteer the information, as the renewal coincided with the car going back on the road. They renewed at the same premium as the previous year.

Also, don’t live in south London. Classic line could not get over the fact that my car has 300cc more than when it was new, despite it have slightly less than the quoted power output.

Yes Anthony, I told them it had a turbo and the form asked for the % increase. With all my bad luck with insurance and claims, I actually told the truth, the whole truth and nothing but etc etc. So for opening my big mouth (no claims by me but several non-fault) the premium was just short of £400.

I have found I get better results on the phone with Classicline. For what it’s worth. My premium is nearly £500, with a clean licence and no claims, but that does include unlimited mileage and 5 track days a year.

TVR stated rediculous power outputs for there engines .

My 5l is just over 340hp which TVR rated there 5l engine, so why should I say that my engine has increased power .

Most standard 5 L make inbetween 275–285 hp.

Yours is pretty epic at over 340 hp. That's a fact.

Presumably the TVR quoted figure of 340 would be at the flywheel? So losing around 18% would give approx 285 at the wheels?

My quoted figures are at the flywheel.

TVR quoted figures were exceptionally optimistic and impossible to achieve given the specification of their engines.

If I remember correctly my old 4 L Land Rover discovery was about 165bhp at the fly, an improvement over the TD5 which was about 130 bhp .

Needless to say, it never felt fast at all!

Hi Guys,

I am at the point of putting a new engine in my Chim. I got this as a project without the engine but was standard 4.00

So as I need an engine - am I better just getting a 4.5 in there? I do have some decent 4.00 heads??

if I went with the 4.5 - am i looking at many issues? insurance, further upgrades like brakes etc??

I would welcome your thoughts ......
