I can see it now, you and me stopping at every speed hump to raise ride height, stopping again directly after to drop it then stopping again 50 yards later at the next one and causing huge tail backs but fook em I gotta look good rofl

Unfortunately it’s an evil necessity to have enough clearance.
I even had a seat splitter but never fitted it because even with the correct ride height my car only just clears some curbs, reluctantly I decided ripping off the TVR one was bad enough but being further back you can’t see the damaged holes where the screws got ripped out and didn’t want to risk tearing holes in the front valance.
I then noticed some plastic house guttering have a very similar angle to the original splitter and purchased a length of that for a few quid, cut it down to fit and stopped worrying about it.
Later on I even smacked a section out of that but at least it didn’t rip itself off so easy enough to replace at no expense as the guttering piece I bought can make four of the buggers lol.

You could see the 'grounding' effect during the TVRCC trackday at Brands this year. Seemed to be exclusive to the Chimps biggrin

Coming through Paddock Hill bend so many were bottoming out at the bottom of the hill. Mixture of rubbing arches and chassis bits. Just need a little geo tweak biglaugh

Really,,,,,something to do with being the only ones on the road in any great numbers and being set up to do so maybe. Not every owner sets the car up to be a bone hard shaker.
Remove the Chim owners and you’ll most likely not have any TVRCC trackdays as the numbers would be so minimal.
As has been shown countless times without the numbers of Chims being sold the factory would have been closed by the mid nineties and there wouldn’t be any later cars to admire or enjoy let alone track.
You could say Chimaera are Tvr thumbup

Not sure the vast majority were Chimps at Brands. Those bottoming out all seemed to, as I recall, be Chimps. May have been one Cerb. Didn't take much, I was homing in on them very quickly (without bottoming out).

And leave trackday driving for trackdays.

Leave road driving for roads.

My point is that the cars were bottoming out very easily, at relatively low speeds - I was certainly not part of the fast group.

TVRs really work best - imho - with the 2Live Crew suspension set up. Setting them up to look good at the local meet negatively impacts the ride quality and dynamics.

I did brands Hatch many years ago with cheapish suspension set at the correct height and it never bottomed out, just goes to show.

The cars do look better set slightly lower, but obviously this does affect ride and handling as discussed above.

With my recently acquired 986, I fitted Bilstein B6 suspension which is designed to run 20 mm lower than standard with matching springs. Car is pretty much a road legal Trackday car so the firmer lower ride is compromised but is absolutely fine and beneficial on track. I certainly wouldn’t have this suspension on a car with primary use for the road.

I'm trying to place the '2Live Crew' reference - what is the set up you're referencing?
Is it something I can use as a guide?

My guess is he’s trying to suggest the standard ride height is the correct one.
Even then you might want to have stiffer springs to cope with “racing speeds”

The Chimaera was built as a softer car to create a better easier to live with road car from the more focused Griffith which was set up with a slightly more firm ride.
That and the practical boot space really worked as can be seen by the numbers of Chimaera sold.

I went down the road of a firmer more sport focused car for a few years trying to keep up with other owners doing the same thing so my car would be better on trackdays but one day it dawned on me it compromised what I mostly did with the car which is road driving.
I then met a Griff owner who went to aftermarket shocks because he had supercharged his car and wanted stiffer suspension to cope and at a Tvr meet gave him a token £20 for his old ones. He was going to give me them for free so the token jesture was just to say thanks.
Fitted them and found them far better suited to what I do with my car.
They are now 30 odd years old and could do with new springs and re painting but the damping works well with no leaks.
I find them better than the cheaper end of aftermarket shocks though if I ever want to replace them would go for Ben Lang’s Bilstein's as mostly it’s about the damping more than spring rates.
I’d assume they are close to being inline with the original spring rates Griffs were fitted with.

Ben is the only suspension tech who worked on Tvr perfecting what suspension works and billies have in my opinion superior damping capabilities.

Those over 18 could use a popular video streaming service to search for the American music group named 'The 2 Live Crew'. They have released many wholesome and entertaining songs. One of them with a title starting 'Face down .. '

Upon listening to the lyrics of such a colourful composition and using a touch of lateral thinking, you can visualise a suspension set up for a TVR.
