I use the ordinary blue stuff in my Rover engined cars but I use Toyota Pink Longlife in the Golf. Its expensive but saves having to change it every 2 years.

I stuck to blue as that is what it was designed to run on. Didn’t like some of the stuff I read on long life coolants.

As far as I know the colours are an historic thing, there were different chemistries associated with each colour, one for alloy blocks, one for iron, etc., ect. Due to legislation all antifreeze is now glycol based, there is no difference. All antifreeze is yellow, the colours are added for cosmetic reasons only

I think you need to be careful actually. You can get 'gelling' if you mix types of antifreeze. If it's the pink stuff, stick to it (lasts longer apparently), or else drain the system completely and replace.

Seems the two choices are blue 2y life or red(pink) 5y life all I can seem to find is the pink could possibly not protect copper/lead too well. Had pink in for awhile and no probles so far pretty sure it had pink in when I got the car many years ago, anyone actually had problems using pink and leaks?

I've gone back to the blue after replacing my rad & hoses - apparently the silicone hoses don't like the pink/red OAT stuff. Also the copper rad is better with the blue....will need changing every 2/3 years though.

I contacted Comma and they informed me that I should use silicate based Comma Xstream G48.

They also mention that it should not be mixed with any other unknown type of anti-freeze.
