400bhp from a NA 500
Discussion
Anyone?
Still needs to be useable on the road, not something that won't tick over below 2k rpm.... Not interested in bigger capacity or FI......... ITB's next step for me, but consensus used to be max 20bhp increase (although cracking throttle response)....That's £3k plus for 20bhp and still 20bhp short of that elusive 400...... Anyone...
And, if you mention turbo, I will find you. And let your tyres down. all of them. And glue your door buttons up.
TIA, Chilli.

It's possible .. throttle bodies will allow you to run much more cam than a plenum and still retain some kind of lower rev manners, but I don't think any RV8 at those levels will be really civilised.
The 5 litre tvr engine in my tuscan made 380hp on dellortos so not far to go to get to 400 on that one and i've mapped a 5 litre tuscan on jenveys at around the same level
The record for hp on my dyno for a RV8 is roseytvr's which made 393hp (5.2 by John Eales) .. so 200cc less to make it a true 5 litre and bit more cam would have done the 400.
On another day on another dyno it might be a bigger number
so yes entirely possible to get more than 400hp I would think but it depends on your own views on driving manners I suppose.

My suggestion would be to contact John Eales Engineering LTD, he is the V8 man. If memory serves me well, he use to build V8's for the Paris Dakar Rally Vehicles.Still needs to be useable on the road, not something that won't tick over below 2k rpm.... I’d like to thank almost everyone for your contributions here. It’s pretty much confirmed what I’ve known for a number of years now, and whilst beastie is by no means lacking in the performance department, the round 400 would have been a nice target to hit without more mega expenditure 😊 thank you to jools, someone we all know knows what he’s talking about. Thanks Daz for asking about my triple, that’s about 5 years now you’ve been trying to buy it off me. Big thanks to Peter for not mentioning here how big his is another thanks to DD for the chemical suggestion, but I’ve never been big on injecting stuff. Most stuff.
I’m really not sure where to go from here, 400 would be a nice figure, but my current 360 doesn’t hang about... that said, I’m mightily impressed with some of the talk figures that are torqued about 😁 I do quite like my progressive power and torque though, it’s kinda all year round friendly and won’t stuff you backwards through the nearest hedge at first opportunity 😊 Sadly, whilst I’d like a TVR that blows everything else into the weeds, it’s really not a doable thing.... on so many levels ☹️
That said, it’s an old skool British two seater front engine RWD manual with a 5 litre V8 up front... and sounds fecking awesome

Your car is superb already Chilli. More than fast enough for the pubic road. All 400 bhp will do is get you to the end of a long straight a tad, and a very small tad at that, faster than at present. It won't make it go around corners any faster.
I saw an ad for a Vantage V8 convertible the other day........maybe, when I retire.....
