biggrin In December 1986 I changed the diff on my MG Midget, roadside, in the snow. I vowed on that day that whilst ever I could afford it, somebody else could do the mending. I've stuck to that plan ever since. hehe

I can empathise and understand that. Many a time I have been under a car thinking......why.....then the sense of self satisfaction you get knowing you did that. Also that it was done well and right is much of it for me.

Came across this one which was fairly new to market a few weeks back as hadn;t seen it before:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TVR-Chimaera-400-FULL-B...

It didn't sell the first time and has been relisted. Seems a bit price heavy in comparison to others for a 400. Has had a 10k chassis refurb and then respray a few years prior. ALos seems pretty straight with decent mileage and history. The problem is the interior looks very tired. Surely it wouldn't take silly money to tidy it up a bit and get the front seats re-trimmed. Would make it much easier to sell but is letting it down IMHO.

I don't get the point in spending what....circa £15k on a car that is worth....£15k. Seems odd to me.

Us Tvr owners are all mad, we spend thousands putting them right for someone else to enjoy!
Seriously though the interior is easily sorted, the seats could be retrimmed but a good interior guy could re colour them etc.

How can a chassis repair job cost over £10,000 unless every other part is buggered.
For a specialist who can do this in their sleep I find that price hard to understand. Be nice to see a breakdown of costs involved!

Ok if you start changing shocks diff and gearboxes or whatever that’s different but a few wishbones and bushes fuel pipes and cable ties biggrin
I suppose transporting chassis and having it prepped and coated adds costs but I think you might be better off after proper prep painting it by hand using quality industrial paints. No way would I go to all that trouble to have more powder coat applied no matter what they say about modern processes. As soon as you put bolts through it will breach powder coat and you start the rotting process again.

I have new front wishbones that have seriously rusted in like 3 years, st is what the powder coating is and good for nothing!

I thought a cost of 10k seemed a little excessive but that is what the seller says in the ad. You can buy another whole complete Chimaera for that!

I agree with you there. Even half an hour and a bit of effort with some wet wipes would make those seats look a lot better than the condition shown in the photos.

As far as the POA Chimaera you mentioned, it may have been for sale for months as you suggest, but only a few weeks on Pistonheads classifieds. It's gone from there now too, perhaps it's already been 30 days?

I expect the POA Chimaera seller would have taken the ad down and decided to have another bash in the spring. Or maybe it has sold....who knows.

I always take pictures of any cars I sell and look at the pics. Often it shows things you don't see and looks terrible. However it means you can rectify it or make a comment in the ad to explain or warrant it. That interior on the £17.5k 400 hasn't photographed very well.

You would be better off visiting somewhere like Amore Autos to view the cars in the flesh,in a well lit showroom.
From what I’ve read they seem like genuine guys.
This would be high on my list if I was buying as I love the colour but they have plenty of cars under £15k there.

...........The numbers of owners isn't great either on this car as the current owner is number 6. Therefore I would be number 7...........
For a model the newest of which is 15 years old, the oldest 25, more than a few owners is something you’ll just have to accept as being ‘normal’ IMHO.
For how long has the current owner held it? That's a far more telling parameter IME...

So just like buses I might have 2 Chimaera's possibly incoming and my existing 400 outgoing. Neither signed sealed and delivered deals yet but getting closer.

One is the late 2002 MK3 450 on PH that I have had discussion on with the seller for some time. I offered a price on this car ages ago but it wasn't accepted and I moved on. As it wasn't sold I have kept in touch with the seller and re-iterated my offer recently. It still wasn't accepted but I have just sweetened my offer a smidge in a bid to get it over the line. It is a bit more than I personally think it is worth but was happy to show the seller some goodwill to help close the sale. Last thing is that is I just wanted some piece of mind on the chassis condition as there are no pics or info on the chassis condition. Trying to arrange a brief visit to a TVR specialist locally to the seller just to make sure there are no obvious horrors or massive bills immediately round the corner. I am sure there will be a few small issues with a 16 year old 98k mile car but of course expect that and this is fine. Just don't want a silly several k bill to hit me day one or two.

The 2nd is a 1998 400 TVR specialist car that just came in and is not on the market yet of which would see my existing 400 go as part ex in the deal. I guess not ideal bringing in 2 TVR's in Nov coming into winter but I am a man of my word and don't like messing people around. What is better than a TVR? Two of them of course! I have space in the garage for both so they will be well looked after.

Glad you got paid!

A choice of 6 or 8 and a huge spread on spec. Sounds like a reverse bid process smile

I won’t hold my breath and good luck with what ever you choose to do!
I'm glad too! There is certainly a few options. Seems like a typical 1st world problem too much choice. I prefer it when there is one option as makes things so much simpler. I'll let you know what goes but nothing will happen until Monday I don't as just sorting out my E55K Estate tomorrow as looks like that has just sold.

Perhaps falling foul (rightly) of selling cars through the forum?

I know it wasn't meant to circumvent the rules per se, but posting up that you have cars for sale and then a load of pics of a SL from all angles looks like selling through the forum to me. I'm not a mod btw.
