I bought my wife an MX5 for her birthday. I'm surprised how Chimaera-like it is, but smaller.

And no 'TVR tax' on bits.
No its not , you may be wrong in many ways.
However they are good. Ive owned an MX5 for about for 20 years. We sold the last one a few months ago and bought a Morgan. They are also nothing like a Chimaera.

Apart from front engine, rear drive, two seats, drop top, a hoot to chuck about. Yeah, apart from all that, they're totally different. rolleyes

Stop being so precious about your Chimaera. They're great, loved mine, but the MX5 is just as good, but smaller.

More reliable
Cheaper to run
More economic

I could go on.

Stop being so salty old chap. I've already said nothing wrong with a Chimaera. I'd argue the softer thing though, the Chimaera isn't exactly hardcore is it? Big lazy Buick block up front, not as in your face as a Cerbera.

Both the MX5 and Chimaera are sports cars, but more tourer than racer.

Anyway back on topic...

As bog standard that’s absolutely correct and about the only thing Tvr didn’t fib about.
There’s more than one way to skin a cat, I’ve driven a few race Mazda and they zip along but the torque and power on track feels very mild, full on racecars but might be held back at 139bhp. Closed Ecu and one map for all. What’s your wife’s car got Alan.
Still great little cars but even comparing it seems strange, one is old and often bespoke the other is the opposite in basic form with a nasty plastic dash etc etc soulless.

I wouldn't call it soulless. Depends what model you get.

Personally we went for a Mk2 with heated leather, mohair hood, not a plastic dash...

Both cars have a great (quick) hood up/down though. And we all agree surely, the law is, if it's not raining, roof down.

True, it doesn't. But my Rangey does. biggrin

Upgrades for the MX5 are surprisingly cheap though. No TVR tax, see? hehe

Oddly enough I was looking on the bay yesterday. £30 for a used one, £200 for a new one.

Why do you ask? My Rangey is £1000.

Is the Lupo headlight conversion still a thing on the Chimaera? Always thought it looked great. In a 'there's something different about that, but I can't put my finger on what it is' kind of way.

I don't see your point?

Posting pictures of your Chimaera with Land Rover wiring loom is lovely. Whilst you have the clocks exposed, assuming you have white gauges, stick some blue LED bulbs in. Looks great.

This ^ nothing wrong with the soft MX5 its the sensible persons sport car with reliabilty any TVR could only dream of scratchchin and if the tin worm cavities etc are caught early (injection wax etc) not Waxoyl rolleyes they rust no quicker than any other main stream product , cracking little car if a little girly the later 2.0 cars have lots of torque and are great fun

To get this thread back to its title, this one is a cat D and got no bids at £8k. Reserve is at least this I think. Now at £6k start. Quite nice in red I think. How much is cat D going to matter on one of these?

Lovely car, Cat D wouldn't bother me at all.

The red does though. Any other colour and I'd be hunting for loose change down the back of the sofa.

Why did you sell yours Alan. I remember it being very tidy and very pucker looking. Excellent condition from new sort of vibe about it,,,
To fast I suppose, Mazda far more sedate and sensible colour wink
