Chimaera Prices

Don,t forget to add on buyers premium plus VAT.I put a link to that sale on 26th January; I was there. It was about 4 pages ago on this thread though!
It DOES include the 6% premium they charge, £10,812 would not be a bid!
But it doesn't include the VAT on it. So unless you're a VAT registered trader, the full price was £10,934. And you have to collect it from King's Lynn, so £11k really.
The paint job was excellent on it. It had power steering, and an aftermarket exhaust but not loud. Dash needed work. Generally VGC though. I could only see the top chassis rails but they looked to still have their powder coating on. Guide price had been £8k - £10k.

The entry costs and commission charges vary wildly but there are plenty to choose from:
ACA (King's Lynn), CCA (various), H+H (they have 2 Chimaera and a Griff at Duxford in 2 weeks time), Brightwells (Leominster), Historics (Brooklands in Surrey), SWVA (Poole), Mathewsons (Yorkshire), DVCA (Dorset) Silverstone and Barons (commission charges on those last 2 are steep for sellers and buyers) And there's Morris Leslie for North of the border.
There's likely more but those are the ones I check now and again for interesting vehicles.

What rate of VAT are you expecting should be applied in those calculations? Just curious as your figures seems to suggest about 1.5%?? I thought VAT only applied to imported cars (so 5% in that case) or if it was a VAT qualifying car (so 20%) which I wouldn't expect it to be. I'm also assuming that VAT, if applicable, would be applied to the price including the buyers premium as opposed to the winning bid price, is that a correct assumption? Just trying to understand the calculations that's all It DOES include the 6% premium they charge, £10,812 would not be a bid!

It's calculated by adding the VAT on the buyers premium of £612 (which would become £734.40).So bid is £10,200. Plus 6% buyers premium £10,812. Plus VAT on that £10,934.40.
I can't comment on whether that's what usually happens as I don't know the system, but I'm alright on the maths front
interesting is that in the past people from other EU countries have purchased TVR´s because they are chaeper in UK....meanwhile you can find former UK imports, with lots of improvements, outside UK (especially in germany), for less than the typical UK car is advertized nowadays.
and several of those cars are meanwhile advertized for more than 1 year....

The estimates look on the high side, and based on a review of the griff by a potential buyer on here last year, and it’s mot history, I’m fairly certain the griff won’t make estimate either. It’s a nice looking car with lots of positives but what’s not mentioned in the listing, will hold its value down.ACA (King's Lynn), CCA (various), H+H (they have 2 Chimaera and a Griff at Duxford in 2 weeks time), Brightwells (Leominster), Historics (Brooklands in Surrey), SWVA (Poole), Mathewsons (Yorkshire), DVCA (Dorset) Silverstone and Barons (commission charges on those last 2 are steep for sellers and buyers) And there's Morris Leslie for North of the border.

If you're referring to the Griff with the Taraka engine at £24k (last lot in the auctions below), I too noticed the MoT history. Corrosion on the chassis a few yrs ago sufficient to fail and have to be rectified, and there's no mention of any outrigger change. I wasn't aware a potential buyer reviewed it on here.
This was about Chimaera prices though so here are the 2 at H+H:
The 1993 430 with 18k miles on it. I still think £17k for an auction estimate is high

The fully restored green 400 is a beauty, but £22k + ??

The one that's caught my eye is lot 3, the Maserati 4200 GT. Quick, nurse, my medication …..…..

The results are in from the H+H auction yesterday. They went for below guide, which I expected, but still good prices, for an auction.
The low mileage 430 went for £14,250 plus buyers premium = £16,031.25:

The fully restored 4.0 went for £19,250 plus premium = £21,656 so it must have been stunning:

Incidentally, the Griff initially showed as not sold at first, but there must have been a deal done afterwards and it went for £20,833 (including premium). Which doesn't calculate so a trimming of their commission probably.

imo, far overpriced the 4.3....as most of the technical parts look to be still original, hence worn or not up-rated.
its strange that through "real" auctions people seem to be willing to pay more than for web-advertized cars.
i was recently visiting a big car show (for historic cars) where all the car-users and enthusiasts where only shacking heads when seeing the price-tags on the cars for sale at the dealers booth´s.
sometimes those cars where advertized double the price a "real" and expirienced enthusiast would pay.
lots of cars only advrtized (and sold) as speculation objects.
