Chimaera Prices
Discussion
'Evening Richard, I got an SUV, specifically for the grandkids, but on the lookout for something different, possibly another bike.
I was sorry to see it go after 12 years but was only clocking up 3-400 miles between MOTs' in the last 4 years apart from a trip to Le Mans.
I'm selling some bits and pieces on PH if anyone's interested

Hi, I have the opportunity to sell my Chimaera back to the previous owner after 8 years for what I believe to be a fair price.
My question is not so much the price but more a case of where do people see Chimaera prices when the full effects of Covid economy take hold? I'm likely selling it next year anyway, cos old y'see, and hadn't planned to sell now but wondering if I should take the money now.

Tricky one to answer. It is 50/50 whether or not the entire world economy goes into a massive depression like we have never seen before. If so the vast majority of "things" (including TVR's) will become next to worthless by the end of this year.
Alternatively and probably...…. we will see a "bad" recession in which prices for TVR's will remain about where they are now.
Over the next month or so they will go up moderately.

Difficult one to answer, indeed.
But, if you’re going to sell it now, then sell it now.
I’d offer a few reasons-
Firstly, it’s the beginning of summer, which of course is always the best time to sell a convertible.
Next, as seemingly virus restrictions are being lifted, a Chim could be seen as the perfect antidote to 9+ weeks of lockdown, and lastly if people were planning on going abroad for their summer holiday this year, it isn’t going to happen.
These days, a half decent family holiday costs in excess of £10k plus, so recession or not, people may have some cash to splash.

Your car is worth nothing until someone makes an offer.
Many owners on here seem to have to be very patient to sell their cars. In the present climate of extreme uncertainty I would snatch his hand off!

Sounds like everyone would be happy .. So why not !My question is not so much the price but more a case of where do people see Chimaera prices when the full effects of Covid economy take hold? If you are thinking of selling it next year, then perhaps you should accept your offer now. Chimaera prices will not go up - if anything they are going to fall gradually this year.
When the full effects of COVID-19 take a hold on the economy, there will be too many cars and not enough buyers as what happened in 2008 but only worse.

the impact from covid-19 to all our financial situation will be present in around 6-10 months.
than the people will realize what impact the lockdown has had.
we may be lucky and the impact won´t be so severe as expected, but most likley people need to sell their luxury goods for low money.
on top we will get a huge inflation and the government will rise the taxes to re-finanze the rescuing of the industry.

Thanks for your replies, I've decided to sell it. If the deal goes through.
I don't want to, especially this time of year, but I can always get something next year etc etc.
Wife says don't buy an old banger then, I think she means Classic car.........
I’d keep it if classic cars on your radar.Best classic out there is a TVR I don't want to, especially this time of year, but I can always get something next year etc etc.

I note you’ve cited your age as being the reason to sell.
In which case “mothballing” your Chim probably isn’t a viable option, if you’re still thinking about getting something else next year.
I’m guessing you’ve already weighed up all the options, and seemingly “the something next year” is unlikely to be another TVR (but maybe something with a few more creature comforts?).
Good luck with whatever you decide 👍
