Friend of mine asked me about this but I'm only really experienced with Chimaeras. First MoT for about 12 years. Built in 1984 but registered in 1988? Is this common or an alarm bell?

Apart from being a bit steep (in my opinion of course biggrin ), the 'Tasmin' badge is from 1984 but being a 350i, it shouldn't perhaps be there?

Edit: Typo

Some of them did sit around in the dealers for a few years before being purchased.

Looks right for 1984, like the colour coded lattice wheels, reminds me of my first wedge.

Only odd thing I noticed is those horizontal slats in the air dam/radiator opening.

That hole is great for scooping up pheasants, which then bust the radiator, happened to me once.

Maybe a previous owner had that happen and fitted the slats.

Rear valance looks very odd, and the front air dam looks "custom"
It's a series one and as an A reg maybe an 83 (as mine is).
The rear spoiler almost certainly a later addition too

Mine is the same as that with a different front splitter. Your chassis number will be around the same number as mine 617.

Just did a car check and it was manufactured in 84 registered June 88 so probably was sat around for 4 years, it will be an trailing arm chassis, if you put the reg in it will come up

That is strange if it was reg in 88 it would have a E or F reg number not an A reg number which is 83/84, so some how it must have been reg at a later date and then had a earlier plate fitted if the car check is to be believed.

Its also got a series 2 front end but a series 1 rear end, To have the front end like this the wings have to be cut to take the spoiler, but a series 1 front end is narrower so its a custom made front spoiler, I have seen this done before, but why I ask, or it has series 2 wings and a correct spoiler fitted which means it may have some impact restyling, or somebody wanted to spend some money having it done?

It is strange but the car checker is from the official Government site, put in the registration and it all comes up

On further checks this vehicle shows as being imported into UK in 1988. Guess it would have been assigned an age related plate. Maybe a Channel Islands car ?
