Food for thought.... if you upgrade to the Drive by wire throttle you can do away with your IACV / manual valve system and configure the ECU to use the throttle to increase the revs where needed.

You could do with someone to write you a bit of code to run a 4 wire stepper driver, so you can trim its action based on a temperature input. That would get you a stand-alone stepper idle valve. In fact I'm surprised no-one already does this somewhere in internet land .. maybe they do.

As an alternative, you could have something like a delay-off relay powering a simple solonoid valve such as this pierburg emissions valve which I have successfully used in the past for a bit of extra air on race engines.

it's only a small bore and you might be able to find something more suitable if you need a lot of extra air flow, but it's certainly worked for me in the past.

Seeing as you're running the davies criag fan controllerpresumably you have a redundant fan control from your canems ecu that you could employ to operate it on a temperature basis.

it *will* take a PWM supply but tends to be very noisy in operation operated like that, but the advantage over a traditional pwm idle valve is that when it's not supplied with a signal it is completely shut, so no air bleed issues.

Or you may like to leave your car as it is .. and as someone who also was brought up through the SU / Stromberg / Weber / etc etc days I actually quite like the nostalgia element of the pseudo choke cable smile

That wasn't quite what I meant, but technically you are right!
