After being very happy with my dyno run on Saturday (417bhp / 450 ft/lb) I took the car to the weighbridge today as I have always wondered how much the car weighs.

It had almost exactly half a tank of fuel, but no spare wheel and no tools in the boot. Only things to really note is I have much lighter Cobra seats and I don't have PAS of A/C.

Weight came back at 1040kg so very close to the quoted TVR figure, and officially puts the car at 400bhp/ton! biggrin

But is it really a practical proposition to go anywhere in a TVR without tools in the boot confused

Seriously though thats a great result, 400 bhp per ton is what you get with a McLaren 540C or a Lamborghini Huracan thumbup

That's one seriously quick Chimaera driving

You would be surprised how nice the turbo cars are to drive.....just faster.
NO turbo lag (it's not an 80s Audi rally car) and loads of power.

Charge coolers, WI. You've gone this far so either would be worth exploring.

How does joining the Women's Institute make him go faster?
Unless he is scared of ladies of a certain age making cakes and singing Jerusalem, which is a fairly scary prospect at the best of times I will admit. eek

Much harder than you think!

Getting down to the lower 12s is relatively easy but just tipping into the magic 11 is quite difficult.

Check your 0 to 60 foot time, it has to be good. If remember right mine is 1.655 seconds, (Derek's 1.599), quite difficult to achieve and I'm sure Derek will agree.

If you do get into the 11s, that is quite achievement and to be applauded!

It's not just power, it's getting off the line!

Went to the local WI coffee morning the previous Sunday in our village church hall. Wow, what an array of fantastic cakes, I came out of there at least 3 pounds heavier!

Err, that was a little off topic I believe!

I know how hard it is,,, just trying to add a bit of pressure biggrin
My best was 1.842, O to 60 foot time. Not bad for a standard car hehe
I don’t have an extra 80 or 100 hp like you blokes so 12.6 is actually one hell of a time.
It’s very easy to just add power, a lot harder to do the times when your 15 mpg slower at the end of 1/4 mile. That takes driver skill only,,, or that’s my excuse anyway.
And I lost so much time with wheel rubbing i’d Have managed low 12’s easy on Derek’s tyres as I did 12.7 on road tyres!

If anyone gets into the 11’s there’s a serious commitment going on one way or another and I too applaud such things, but how hard can it be when you have 100 hp more than everyone else.

Anyway 400 hp per tonne is an excellent result. thumbup

Actually Alun my 11.83 seconds was only 6 miles an hour terminal speed faster than yours.

Which just goes to show the huge, fantastic and absolutely marvellous skill required! wink

It just shows also that if I had the slightly higher ratio differential I wouldn't have to change into fourth 50 yards from the end of the track. My gear changes are also very average after spending about £700 on a gearbox rebuild I treat it with kid gloves!

That is the end of my excuses for not getting a better time ...........

I’ve got a book of excuses somewhere wink

So infact you were really slow then,,,,,
Seriously though it’s a massive task getting under 12’s regardless of anything.

When real racing occurs, that’s it mechanical sympathy is dead, similar to my car after I drag raced it,,, which is why I shouldn’t have gone there but once the eye of the tiger comes out all jest is bks, Racing is everything,,, :Hehe:

What I never understand is you guys are prepared to risk smashing it to bits on race tracks and don’t bat an eye lid then a bit of drag racing has everyone moaning about the risk to machinery.
At least you come away with a relevant time on the strip and track driving costs more and wears out more parts. Thrashing it around a track is hardly mechanically sympathetic but arguably more fun.
I love both clearly. wink

As people have said to reduce 1/4 mile elapsed times it mainly comes down to the launch. It is proven that every tenth gained to 60 foot is worth at least twice that at the line. So if a TVR running 2.0 second to 60 foot and a 1/4 mile in 13.0 at 110 on street tyres puts on a pair of drag radials and suddenly runs 1.6 second to 60 foot will run the 1/4 in 12.2 but will only gain a little mph. The terminal speed is fairly consistent as this is ultimately determined by the bhp across the line.

When running super sticky drag radials such as Mickey Thompsons the trick is to commit. A decent burnout to get them hot then literally dump the clutch and hit them with full throttle from the off. If your suspension is set right then weight transfers to the rear and into the tyre, the foor print of the tyre increases and the sidewall wrinkles as they grip and the car lifts and moves forward.

Barrie and I have run low 1.5's to 60 foot and can still improve into the 1.4's with more practice I think.

Can’t argue with a champion.

Anyway I didn’t knacker the car going forwards, it was my reversing that caused the wear hehe

Great fun, I had a ball. Worth it now as I never shut up about it,,,,, biglaugh

I’ve never painted the inner rear arches since Derek, I like the odd war wound and reminder,, i’ll Be showing everyone when we meet up someday, see I told you I could have gone even quicker,, biggrin

I wonder who’s aiming at faster times this year scratchchin
