So a bit of background. I have taken my engine and gearbox out to tidy the engine bay and replace the heatshields as well as one or two other jobs.

Has anyone done anything with the large hose that transfers hot air from the heater in the passenger footwell to the drivers footwell. This pipe runs just in front of the bulkhead. I find in summer its still hot as it seems to get some heat soak from the engine. I could just blank both off all together but did wonder if anyone had a solution that involved a smaller diameter pipe that insulates better from the heat.

Cheers Colin

Why dont you insulate it or re route .MIT.

It's a nice thing to have in the summer if it works .

Mine is red hot in the summer .

Not all these cars have the cool air facility.

Does it come directly from out side?

No solution from me but I just removed it for neatness sake and blanked the holes left.
It was a pig to remove as a lot of sikaflex was used!
I did leave the outlet open on the heater box inside the car as it was so awkward to get to but it didn’t pose any problems.

Its designed to blow hot air when its cold outside to your feet Daz. If you turn the heater control to cold it still blows hot air. Not ideal in summer. The vent in the footwell doesn`t seal either so even though its shut it leaks hot air. I think I`m going to blank it off, being too cold in the car I suppose has never been an issue in the 9 years I`ve owned it. Just thought someone may have another routing solution.

Belle427 I was typing and missed your post, Yes I think I can blank the heater end off with some sort of large plug. I`ve managed to chop most of the sealant away. Cheers

Does your car have a three speed switch under the steering wheel ?

When rebuilding mine I thought about what to do with this tube. In the end I put it back and insulated it with the same stuff I used for the heat shielding. wink

Here some photos. cool

I`m going to blank mine off, however I noticed on your last photo you have trimmed the trim under the windscreen in order to get the Plenum top off easier. Have you a better photo.

Just make some covers and bond them over the top, cover with some heat shielding afterwards?
