Another flat battery question
Discussion
Well it looks like I have halved the drain but the battery still drops down to about 10v after 3 days, connecting up its old last battery that I replaced about 5 or 6 years ago as a precautionary measure is still over 12v for the same time period, so yes it’s just a dimple knackered battery, I think the one in there is an 072 as I was recommended at the time, but I remember it being a bit of a tight fit and needed persuading to get it into the box, that will be fun to remove now, does anyone know of something slightly smaller ?, the one that it came with was quite a bit smaller but also on capacity
If the car is a keeper you want to compare the amp hour capacity of the battery and its cold cranking amps, and buy the battery that has the best figures that will physically fit into the space you have (standard battery box in my case and possibly yours as well).
When I went through this exercise, the battery that came out best was the Odyssey PC1500. These are a lot more expensive than the average battery, but trust me, they are worth it. As well as one in the Grief, I have a pair in the landrover, and have had several others in various other cars I have owned. I have never had one fail and (in the landrover particularly - a day "off road" is mainly with the engine at tick over or close to it, but maybe doing a lot of winching (think starter motor current). In winter, loads of spot lights and work lights on as well) they get some abuse. The Griff can sit in the garage for over a month and it just always starts, even though I hardly use it. The only time it is on charged is if it is SORNED.
