Is that a cable or a braid? If it is a braid I think it was something to do with the radio antenna. On my car there is a braid that runs up into the 'A' pillar and I assume across the top of the windscreen.

To be honest, it looks like it could do with something a bit more substantial - so will replace in coming weeks. My top dash is only held by the one bolt on far side then heavy duty Velcro - so easy enough to take off and get to.
