I looked into it a few years ago, I worked out for it to be a top quality install it needed an aftermarket ecu no matter what people may tell you and that put it at around £6500 to do it justice.
I couldn’t justify that even though I loved the thought of it.

the kit is expensive but on a good 3.9 engine with ecu, can apparently make 380hp

much cheaper than an NA build , i have been tempted by LS3 swap, but a huge undertaking

I’d talk to TopCats racing for advice. Not only do they do LS installs into TVRs, until recently they used to race Marcos cars so know a lot about how to make them go fast.

Only you can decide which way to go, a 5.0 N/A built engine would be around £7500 and develop what around 350 to 400 hp?
Good luck with your decision, it’s never easy!

I built a 4.8 stroker for an LM500 and fitted a Rotrex blowing into a Holley carb with a dizzy. The installation wasn't to difficult but needed some parts fabricating. The s/c was mounted to the passenger head. I never heard about hp figures but am sure they would have been healthy. The car was the same colour as yours.

ive had quotes from lloyd and v8 developments for something like 14000£ for a 350hp engine...

so apart from ls3, the supercharger route seems a good option.

Seems high as V8D engines on their site are all priced and a cooking 5.0 is around £7500.

But to use a supercharger don’t you need a decent rebuilt engine with this in mind.
If an LS3 has forged internals it starts to make more and more sense just to use a bullet proof engine and management system that will be more powerful in almost all aspects with very little internal effort.
I’m lucky enough to have driven a Coyote Mustang engined Cobra L/H drive kitcar from America which is a rougher version of many a Tvr but the engine is fantastic and out drags 600 hp Supercars to about 100 mph which is more than enough in a kitcar with no side screens and so small your arms hang out the sides similar to being in a Caterham
Seems like the perfect match in a Tvr.

You'll need to go with intercooler, aftermarket ECU and coil packs etc for mappable ignition too for those power levels.

If that's all you want (power level wise) and you're not going to thrash the balls of it, then the standard drive train (Chimaera) is more than capable of handling the power.

Mine's just shy of 390, on the SC Power page this comment "Customers who later fitted the intercooler system with an aftermarket ECU have achieved 385BHP, not bad for a stock engined 4.0L!!!" is referring to my car smile

I did mine in stages:
1. SC Power kit (and brake upgrade)
2. Megasquirt ECU and coil packs etc
3. Intercooler

Colin Apps did all the work on mine and he continues to look after it for me at TVRSSW.

Pics for attention wink

Joolz knows his stuff, always a good thing to use what's recommended by the person who will work on the car.

My Chimaera has a T5 gearbox.

Just for the record, there's an alternative efi from Holley. This one although they do other versions.

https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/fuel_...

I've rover friends in the States who love it's self tuning functions. Depending on which product you buy there will be one for boost. I have 2 LS friends using it with turbochargers who are very happy.

As for your engine choice, stock LS engines have weak piston crowns, It's the ecu/pcm that saves them from detonation damage. Early rover pistons are thicker in the crown but weaker below that. Cross bolted engines have lovely pistons. You're not going to make huge boost so I'd consider running with the rover engine and a decent ring pack. You'll be up and running far quicker then an LS conversion and shall save a lot of money. When you swop to LS just about everything else needs to be replaced, not just the engine.

Difficult to get pictures, but I know it comes with the necessary brackets.

Bear in mind it is not standard in the 4.0 kit, but it is highly recommended if you want the higher power

As mine will be for a marcos it will probs need a custom intercooler to fit in front of the rad
A new 5litre taking mine in exchange is 12000£ for only 360hp
So hopefully this sc kit can fit my car

I fitted the sc kit to my car 4 years ago, easy enough to do yourself, mine is a V8D short stroke 5.0, running on an emerald ECU installed and mapped by Joolz.
The charger I use is a C38-91

There is plenty of room upfront for the intercooler in a Chimaera, so if you have a similar space, you will have no problems.
