Hi guys,

My wiper motor on my 96 chim has bit the dust, had it apart and discoverd the worm gear to be worn to the extent that its jumping on the gear wheel.

Was wondreing if anyone would be kind enough to give me the lucas part no of the top of theirs, i know there's lots of different ones used but i can see part of the no. and have a very friendly local motor factors with plenty of thick books..

Thanks
Andy

Just so the facts are correct..The wiper motor is not off a mini or Taxi these units are the 14 watt smaller geared unit that are samller in size all round...TVR use the 29 watt version that has not been made for over 4 years ...these are also 2 gears 130 degree and 170 degree.

I saved a link that someone had sourced spares from:

If you read that link it does not say that the 29 watt is no longer made! and does not refer to the 29 watt version only the 14 and 16.

Would the OP confirm whether he is talking about the gear on the armature (which makes the motor comments relevant in this case) or if he is talking about the flexible drive. The exploded diagram is a useful reference IMHO, and may prevent this thread going off on a wild goose chase.

The armature/ gear/gear/box cover/gear box, bearings are the not the same, in fact the only part s the same is the drive cable, EVEN the park switch in that drawing is the earlier screw on type park switch. The TVR has no parts that cross-over..IMHO it it is better not to confuse people

back to work or FFG is going to unhapp....

Hmm, Confusion is the word Were you agreeing with me wholeheartedly since you wrote my exact same words (a strange coincidence perhaps) or have you not mastered quotation?

If the exploded diagram on that link enables the OP to clarify what his particular problem is, then for the life of me I cannot see how the reference is not useful.confused

Like many other references we use (even TVR ones) parts are not always straightforward. In particular there are many wiring diagrams & Lucas 14CUX diagrams ~ many different - that doesnt mean they are all useless does it?

From what i can gather the OP only wanted the lucas part number so he could source a new motor...this thread seems to have gone very complicated!!!!!!

Spend,
Just had a look at that link....seems good to me and from what i can gather they do overhaul kits so the OP might even be able to get in touch with them and tell them what he wants...?

Coffee break....The OP got the correct info from the first link....The Whole point is that the 29 watt motor is nothing like a mini/taxi unit or the blow up picture (I was putting fact into the thread) and peeing off SVC with them saying yet again that they do not do that unit it and it is obsolete does not help anyone. Having never worked on a mini/taxi I would not know or want to know if one fitted my or my customers 140MPH TVR...(I had to bloody well stop a Taxi in the street to make sure that the FX4 does not run a 29 watt motor) Adrian@
OK I admit my first car was a mini!
off my high horse....

Facts are good...especially to tech minded people but there are a lot of people on here who are not technically minded and would have dificulty knowing thier a*se from the other end of a spanner...!!!

i was just thinking that this bloke is probably going to come back to PH later after a cr*p day at work, thinking to himself "...I wonder if anyone has posted a reply to my request for a part number for my wiper motor...", then he opens his thread, reads it and thinks to himself "WTF?!?!?!", close his thread, sell his car and become a recluse!!!

hehe

and i wasnt having a 'pop' at anyone...!

Dad, I think there is possibly a replacement available from Rolls/Royce ~ but not sure that was good for the speed .

Sorry, a tad flippant, but I did hear a rumour that the higher powered motor was from RR/Bentley, and it would be most unusual if TVR hadn't sourced a part off the shelf.

Lighten up generally chaps, half the fun of these cars is searching for bits. If some of these threads didnt ramble on they would prob be very boring anyway.

Smiling gracefully....OP had better give me a call for a gear and help him find out why his ..2130 ozf in. torque motor destroyed his gear (as opposed to 900 ozf in. in a mini) The wiper pinions siezed or the drive failed, to cause the stripped gear, this needs to be corrected before the gear is replaced. Hey guys,

Wow didn't ever intend to spark off such a debate just wanted to be able to see where i was going in the rain.
The situation is that even with the lucas part no. (type 17 600270 etc) there is no suplier that can get a cross reference from it to provide a replacement part probably due to no one making one. After speaking to lucas they comfirmed, after the copmany was split in several ways, they stopped production of the part.
Mini unit are similar but are slightly smaller and only provide a 110 degree, not the 130 needed so unfortunatly not really that useful.
Black cabs.... well live in the sticks and never seen one on the roads let alone a scrappies..
Found lapelec.co.uk today and they look very promising, hopefully have some good news tomorrow.

Big thanks to all who responded
