Hi , just wondering if anyone has had any experience with Peninsula Automotive ,Collumpton , Devon for servicing with their T.V.R. I am a fully qualified mechanic managing my own branch of a large free-fit chain in Ivybridge so could easily service the car myself but my car has full T.V.R. history so therefore have decided to bite the sour bullet and maintain the history and have provisionally booked the car in for it's 36,000 mile service on Feb 11th any comments please .

As I understand it, Peninsula are an independent. I quote from their web site: "Thank you for your interest in Peninsula Automotive; the country's leading Marcos dealership and Independent TVR specialist."

Does the use of an independent for servicing constitute maintenance of a full TVR history? This is something that I am particularly interested in as I have a Chimaera of a similar vintage to yours and am considering using David Batty at The Garage in Compton, Guildford - again a TVR specialist rather than a main dealer.

I suppose the main issues to consider are:

1. Quality / integrity of the work carried out on the car
2. Effect, if any, on the value of the car of not having a full TVR dealership history

Hi

My old Griff had a FTVRSH and after I bought it was serviced by a TVR Main Dealer and then by Peninsula.

All my subsequent servicing went to Peninsula!

Much cheaper, better service and in my experience a much higher standard of work - did I mention cheaper? And they'll collect your car for free.

As for used value, I am Griff 500 shopping now and would not think twice about accepting a "respected" specialist on the service book. I think some specialists (Peninsula being an example) have risen to almost non-official, official status if you know what I mean. Their reputations are hard won and easily lost and there is plenty of positive feedback on this site about the handfull of companies I'm talking about.

This of course does not apply to general garages, cornershop mechanics nor necessarily to specialists of other vehicle marques - the more TVR specific knowledge the better! (Incidentally I would not include David Batty in this as his servicing work for Adrian Blythe has been well recommended here).

All my opinion natch'

I took my car to Peninsula for its last service, and it will be going down next week for it's MOT and post winter check over.

The staff are mostly ex-tvr main dealer and have always been courteous and competent. Whilst they aren't a main dealer they will stamp your service book (both copies and suggest you send the second to TVR).

When I joined the Club (Bristol) I asked for recommendations on where to get the car serviced, everyone I asked said take it to Richard at Peninsula.

From a personal point of view I would rather see a car (certainly Griff or Chim or earlier) with a history from a specialist, as I believe they trade on their reputation not name.

Having not owned a TVR before is what what happens? You have two copies, the copy being sent to Blackpool for them to compile their own servicing records of each car? Presumably a main dealer would automatically do this?

I can understand that viewpoint ... says he who once he purchases his car will, I think, be going to a specialist for servicing.

I don't know the official procedure, re sending the copy off, but the service book comes with 2 copies for every service, one for you and one for Blackpool.

That's right though, there should be two copies, and a main dealer will fill in both and send one to the factory, the other stays in your book.

For later resale value, it depends I guess on your potential buyer: an enthusiast will value the stamp of a good specialist as much or higher than that of some main dealers perhaps, a dealer or general buyer will of course seek to knock some money off.

For newer cars, maybe the main dealer stamp is best, but I don't know at what point that would change.
