Would be grateful for comments, advice, experience and any other ramblings on the following question:

When buying a used TVR from an authorised TVR dealer do they offer any form of warranty ( when it is out of factory warranty ), do they have any type of "approved used scheme" as every other car manufacturer seems to run. Also do the dealers go through each vehicle they sell with some form of "xxx point check" to ensure the used vehicle is fault free (and more to the point FIX any before they sell it!!!). Having scoured virtually every TVR dealers adverts, web-sites etc there seems to be no mention of any of the above, they are conspicuous by there absence! (just like the TVR that I don't have yet!)

Cheers chaps Andy ( TVR owner eventually )

Most dealers off a third party warranty, just like any other used car dealer - you'll need to ask each individual dealer which warranty company they use. One popular one is Warranty Holdings - I got a years 'gold' cover when I got my Chimaera.

To be honest the most valuable thing is to get the car checked by another dealer, or ideally an independent. This should ensure you know exactly what you're getting. BTW, the TVR factory also keep a record of services and major body part orders for any particular car (not sure if you can get the info without being the owner, but you can try).

I think all TVR dealers check their cars out, but I do not believe there is the TVR equivalent of a 100 point Network Q RAC check (or whatever).

You can also buy an after market warranty...

I bought my car from a non-franchise dealer with a 3-month warranty. When this ran out, and at about the sometime that I got the car serviced at a main dealer, I also bought a Warranty Holdings warranty (two years).

Worth it for the peace of mind, if nothing else!

How much did it cost and what does it cover? Have you had to make a claim and how did they process things?quickly etc...

The Warranty Holdings one, as far as I can make out, will pay for anything that has failed to fulfil its use and hasnt because of wear and tear or damage.

I have heard that WH will sometimes argue the point on certain things, like dampers for example.

Basically, if it wears out normally (clutch, tyres, pads etc) then its not covered, if you damaged it yourself, its not covered. Anything else is.

Matt.
