I doidn't get on with AVOs but you might want to check the archives for recent discussions about this. Re brake upgrades, it all depends what you're going to do with the car and how much you're prepared to spend. I'm running 300 mm discs and 4-pot calipers but most people don't need anything like that. Are you having any particular problems with the current brakes? What pads and rotors are you using?

Cheers,

On my Chimaera I went for a partial solution: Tower View's big brake upgrade which involves replacing the weedy original discs with 285mm parts but using the original calipers, all at a cost of around £500. This setup is now fine for fast road work (the original kit started to show signs of giving up after a few fast hard stops) but still isn't good enough for more than a handful of laps at Donington before fade starts to set in.

Is is worth replacing the calipers for yet another £500+? Dunno -- depends how many track days you want to do.

Personally, due to the economic downturn, I've done fewer track days over the last year than I've wanted or intended to, so the answer right now is probably not. Hopefully this situation will change...

I have AVO on the back of my 400 Chim, They work just great , can adjust for track days very easy , even adjust for the type of journey you are about to do . You can get them form Demon Tweeks for £150 a pair cheaper than any dealer . You need to ring and ask for them, it takes about 3-4 weeks to get them in, but well worth the wait . I am about to put them on the front for this season .
As for brakes change your disks to EBC use EBC Green stuff and you will have no problems contact Noel V8 he will keep you right .

My standard pads and discs have stood up quite well to being hammered, especially around MK, when your always stopping every mile or so for a roundabout from about 1xx MPH, I mean 70 MPH. Had the rear pads replaced under serviced, did 2 x track days @ Donnigton, and a bit of normal driving, 2500 miles later, rear pads had gone...!!!!

Just replaced them with some Mintex M1144, which seem quite good so far. I've got a 96 4.0L Chimp, with standard brakes and discs...

If you want to replace pads first, less expensive option, bear this in mind. Front pads are the same as a Ford Escort RS Turbo (85-90) withour wear indicators, Rear are Escort Cosworth 4WD (91-96).

I've also heard the EBC greens are good so I'm going to run them in the front on next change - part number DP2605/2. Rear Mintex MDB1287.

These are all fiarly easy fit, although you will need a caliper wind back tool for the rear calipers....!!

jj (cheers mate for the part numbers..)
