Hi,just an update on my previous fault.
Red warning light staying on,thought it might be the fuse link.Wrong.
After confirming that feed was on both spades at the alternator, removed the alternator for bench test and the rectifier was faulty.Replaced no bother and refitted, all ok.
Cost £53.
Cheers

Having a similar problem at the moment - see my thread. Replacing the alternator tomorrow.

The red warning light is illuminated on my car (94 4.0). It is the bottom light of the three between the speedo and rev counter.

I'm praying this is the ignition/battery light and not the oil pressure light as stated in the hand book!

Is this the same light as in yours?

Hi jsr,
i thought exactly the same, the handbook states that the bottom red light is for the oil pressure warning light when in fact it is wrong. The oil pressure warning light is the yellow in the middle, the non charging light is the bottom one. This was confirmed by a simple test on the oil sender switch. Also i noticed on previous forum's that other lads had come across this misleading info.I was also able to confirm this with the previous owner.
Cheers

It's a very good idea to make sure you know which light is which. If the no charge warning light comes on, you need to check the fan belt is still OK (to ensure the water pump is still being driven) but if it is you know you can safely drive a few miles to a garage. If you've lost oil pressure, trying to get to the next garage will probably wreck the engine.

Here's how to check:

Ignition on engine stopped, handbrake on, you should have hand brake, brake fluid level, oil pressure and no-charge warning lights on. When you take the handbrake off the handbake and low brake fluid level warning lights should go out. When you start the car the other two should go out. Rev the engine to about 3000 rpm and switch off, the no charge warning light should come on and stay on while the engine spins down, the oil pressure warning light should stay off.
