Can anyone let me know if they have successfully mounted a timing beam 'Splitter' on a Chimaera (96 - mesh grill)? Rather than invent my own set-up - and risk drilling unnecessary holes in the car - any help or advice would be most welcome. Pete

The size and height of the timing strut are detailed in the MSA Blue Book (comes with your licence) My brother made mine for me, took about 30 minutes and clamps on to the number plate. It is simply the timing strut with a long piece bent at 90 degrees so it sits flush against the number plate. Others have used rigid foam with a groove cut in it so it slots over the number plate. As long as you have something to break the beam, most places don't seem to worried about the dimensions, so it is not necessary to get too exact over the design. What I have to do now is ammend the version I have to sit on the front of the Tuscan as the number plate is stuck on (the Chimaera was screwed on) and also the number plate seems a bit more upright on the Tuscan!! ================ Graham and Rosie

graham and Graham & Rosie - thankyou for your kind suggestions - I will certainly use the Number palte mounting bolt idea. I have the corret splitter conformation from my MGC competing days - and may only need a modified bracket. Does anyone know of any Clubs or individuals who sprint TVRs or, particularly, hillclimb (eg at Prescott)? Peter

Where abouts are you? There are plenty of championships with TVRs running in them, plenty of us sprint in the ACSMC championships (Speed and Sprint)and Pete Humphries is also organising a TVR Car Club championship (that's Pete and a Green V8S who often posts here!) Join the TVRCC (you need to be in this for the TVRCC championship and also this is a qualifying club for other championships) and check out www.ukmotorsport.com for details of championships and organisers. If you are near Kent next weekend (11th March) get down to Lydden Hill and come and say hello to the TVR racers who will be out for the first sprint of the season - I will be there with a red Tuscan Speed Six so come and say hello if you do make it ================ Graham and Rosie

G + R Thanks for the (further excellent) advice. I am based in Worthing,Sussex - so Lydden would have been great if I wasn't elsewhere (obviously need to start re-ordering my priorities a little better) I will endeavour to check out future events where you guys are participating - and will come and see you then. Thanks, Peter

Dear RJAM, Thankyou for the kind offer - I would love to talk to you about your 'experiences'. My e.amil address is petermorgan2001@yahoo.co.uk - if you want to give me yours - I could fire off a few questions easily and save Piston Heads some gassing space - or carry on as we are if you would rather. Where DID you put your splitter? Peter

The TVRCC Speed Championship incorporates rounds of the Midlands Speed Championship, which goes to many of the same places as the HSA but on different dates. The MSC has far better TVR support than the HSA so it is a better bet if you want to compete against similar cars. If either of you would like more info about the TVRCC Speed Championship (or sprinting in general, come to that) feel free to get in touch. Cheers, Peter Humphries (and a green V8S) peter.humphries@jyra.com
