Speeding Fines

Disaster - the day before I pick up my new Tuscan I've had notice through from Northampton Police alledging that I was doing 98 mph on the M1 in my Griffiths. In ten years of driving this is the first road offence I've been accused of. Does anyone have an idea what sort of penalty I might be looking at ? If so, please email me at [e-mail]

If they mentioned that a fixed penalty may be applicable then I'd take that for 3 points and £60 rather than going to court.

Well it was a good job you met a dyslexic plod who couldn't get the last two numbers (of the 3 he had a choice from !!!) quite right !! Just make sure you brush up on your French for the trip to Le Mans....

Princess Anne was doing 93mph on the Motorway, I she got 5 points and a £400 fine. Geri Halliwell was doing 60 mph in a 30mph and got a 6 points, a 42 day ban and £400 fine. That's fcuked your insuance up next year. Edited by GingaNinga on Friday 16th March 13:00

Not true! I got banned in 96 but otherwise had an impeccable driving record (i.e I was lucky enough never to get caught!). Subsequent to this my premiums weren't really effected for the griff or my Tuscan - however the insurance for my family run around is still slightly weighted (5 years later). I think you'll find that the TVR insurers won't really weight a single (one off) offence - it's the habitual offender that they don't want to touch. Mike

When I first came to insure my Westfield I had 9 points on my licence. For a limited mileage policy the quotes were surprisingly low (under £300). I enquired how much difference having 9 points on my licence made to my premium and the answer was basically not a lot. They worked on the basis that if I had 9 points already then I wouldn't be too keen to add to the total, therefore I was less likely to drive like a muppet and so I was slightly less of a risk. Equally, if I did get another 3 points and couldn't drive the car then the fact that it would have to stay in the garage meant it was again a pretty low risk. Slightly perverse logic, but at least I didn't end up getting hit in the pocket.

Get a set of germans plates to put on the wheels. Difficult to confirm over the radio. Most of the people I know are now taking direct action against this form of gov fund raising, and the positions and jobs that they hold shows that policy is out out sink with the 'man on the Clapham omnibus'. Those who know UK law, know that term.

I got a 7 week ban (SP50) about 3 years ago in my Chimaera and havent noticed much change in insurance over the years. Just renewed again at under £1000. I shouldn't worry about it too much from the insurance point of view - don't forget to tell them tho.
