During my reading driveline shunt in early Aero 8's seems common. During my search I've been taken in one vehicle which hardly had any shunt, but then again the driver/owner has owned it for a long time and had learned to drive it (he was apprehensive about me driving it). The second, the owner was happy for me to drive and me not being used to driving it, I experienced some shunt at the start but after a few minutes or so I got much smoother and the car warmed up :-). My question is, on the second car I heard a rattle with the shunt and maybe a bit of a rattle when I was going down the gravel drive with the clutch in. This sounded a little like clutch rattle but I'm not sure. Is this characteristic of the car? Does anyone else get a rattle with the shunt?

Very hard to tell without hearing it, they are all different.
Mine has a little shunt if you're not used to it and it "clunks" a bit as you would expect, it does not rattle though..

Usually if it was a clutch release bearing it would rattle with the clutch out in neutral idling and maybe with a little rev or two, put clutch pedal down and it will disappear as it is disconnected from the engine.

Thanks, Nick. I will probably go back and inspect this a little more. I couldn't get it to do it when I wanted to hear it haha.

I have been reading your comments on talkmorgan during my search - very helpful. Just waiting for my approval to the forum :-)

Thanks Nick, I also couldn't seem to get the tyre monitoring screen to work. Is there a secret to it?

The secret to the tyre monitoring system is to disable it - everyone does in the end.

Re the 'shunt', I don't really get any but also do get some noise (the odd subtle clunk) in reverse, but not a rattle. This is, I am assured, entirely normal

Seen two more vehicles since the post and they all had the same sort of noise so I'm happy.

Deposit has been paid, Hoping to join the club in a week or two :-)

Still waiting for my acceptance into the talkmorgan forums, i'm hoping there is a bit more info in there!

Welcome aboard.

I won't bore you with a list of sports car I have owned in over 40 years of driving, but I've had my Aero since autumn last year & it is the only car I've ever had that I will never want to sell.

It makes me smile at 40 mph, makes me grin at higher speeds, gives me a great feel good factor every time I use it, has retro looks & supercar performance & is modern under the skin, & is made by a proper manufacturer with history & tradition. The Series 1 is rare (260 made) & one day these might be worth serious money, I really think that. I doubt they will ever get cheaper than they are now.

There's no driveline shunt in my 2 year old Aero.... worth getting it checked out if it's bad I should think.

There won't be, the driveline configuration on the series 1-3 are different :-)

The drive line on 1 is different from all of them in that it is hard mounted to the chassis, hence the drive line shunt. This differs from car to car with clutch and diff wear and the fact they were hand made.

Series 2 onwards used rubber mounts and were thus insulated.

No ideas on the rattle, but if it is only when underlay I would suggest it is gear selector remote vibrating, as under load the transmission and drive train is loaded up so not free to rattle. Either way, with these cars it is not always the noises they make, but the changes to a noise they make that should concern you...ie if it stops rattling, what has fallen off?

My car has quite a bid of shunt, but you learn to drive around it. It also can be clunky changing gear, has diff wine when cold and has a squeak/rattle from the front.......but I love it and its totally normal and fine.

I think it might be more than 260 series 1's but quite a few early ones got wrecked. However, in reality any Aero 8 is rare compared to most cars. Each variant has it's pro's and con's. In an ideal world, I'd have one of each! The only model I've not had is the series 2 although I've driven a couple.
