Hi guys,

last trackday my battery wasn't charging so after 3 laps it was game over. Car went into cut-off as battery voltage dropped below 12V.
Found the culprit, the control connection wire on the alternator seems completely burnt and disintegrated, so needs replacement. I still don't understand how this happened, from the heath? Alternator was still fine.
Does anyone know where these 2 wires run to? Does it run to the ecu, and so where is the ecu? My guess is in the right side pod, opposite to the battery?

Thanks

Josh Smith

Charge loom failures do happen and will often ‘go’ at the engine connection plug or the voltage rectifier plug.

There is a heavy duty version available now as a direct replacement from RLM

I replaced the last 30 cm of the control wiring to the alternator and my battery is charging again. I suspect the metal wiring got britle by the heat and hitting it while loosening the oil filter must have broken te connection completely.

For those running into similar issues. The control connector has 2 wires, one goes straight to the output of the alternator as reference voltage, the other one (green in my case) goes to the ecu? through the chassis loom.
