The only way to retain any value on that monstrosity would be to convert it back to standard. I have seen one in the metal and it doesn't disappoint: it really is that horrific. What were they thinking...?

The Jaguar XJS has grown in stature over the last five years with really good examples reaching well over £20000 !
70s bad taste has become super cool overnight !

The Guy Salmon Jubilee edition is an extremely stylish car with its
Distinctive roof and boot spoilers / two tone paint / Guy Salmon Grille !

( the early XJS HE Guy Salmon 1985-1987 is an extremely rare car )

I wish I could find one !

I was thinking that the XK8 and XK should really have been designated XJ-S too. They're all big 2+2 grand tourers.

Except that now Jaguar has no grand tourers, just three pinch-and-zoom appease-all models, an ugly 4x4 box and the F-Type.

So what was a 2+2 E-Type, even more so with the V12 engine. Known as an XKE in some markets.

The E-Type was called the XK-E - but it had the XK engine. In that respect no Jaguar should be prefixed 'XK' now...!

So whereas you have XJ-S > XK8 > XK you'd have XJ-S and XJ-S V8. Just the body changes with time.

Well a name is just a name. C-Type was for Competition. Son by your logic D-Type and E-Type shouldn't have been used either.

And XJ-S stood for Special development of the XJ platform. Although was latter changed to XJS without the hyphen.

The original XK8 might have been a further development of the platform. But your rational for your preferred naming is somewhat more than tentative in the least.

And people who refer to their X150s as XK150s should lose them.

You're welcome to come up with more logical alternatives.

Many years ago my Dad bought new a 1980 Jaguar XJS Sport, a dealer special by Appleyards of Leeds, in its day a lovely car, US twins headlights and US wheels and a lovely special metallic green colour and vented bonnet. Long since died of rust I suspect, as my Dad is in the last throws of Alzeimers, OWT198W wish I could buy it back now frown
