F Type convertible second hand - V6S vs V8S

I know when new, many reviewers stated V6s is the sweet spot for the money.

However with only around £5k diff between 2013 30k miler V6s and V8S now, what are,people's,views when buying second hand ?

Drove both of them quite a lot. I know the V6S is often given the sweet spot, but the sound of the V8 was so addictive that I just loved to hammer the thing when nobody was looking....
Both very good cars and worth trying to test each of them to see your personal preference.

Hi

I tested a V6S and a V8 and bought the V8..... The sound is really good (for a while) however handling is a bit mad even with the traction control on the rear sometimes steps out slightly.

I bought OV13 ASU (now gone) wonder where it is now.

Did have a short test drive in a V8S in the damp and it was spinning up the rears at 60, so agree with that wink

Unfortunately it didn't have switchable exhaust, so felt a bit muted at low revs, which was the only way to stop wheels spinning lol.

After plummeting from new, must admit I do wonder if they will now hold value better in long run vs V6S

they 100% will

the numbers are super super low after the first years market blitz.

they were discontinued and replaced by a £95k AWD R which no-one buys

so the V8 convertible F-TYPE will be a unicorn that people will not believe exists and will hold their value big time

Drive them both, back to back if you can (dealers good for this), they feel quite different and it doesn't take long to choose which you prefer.
Coming out of a 200sx (cr@ppy but great fun!) we preferred the handling on the V6s, and honestly the noise, didn't feel the 8 was deep enough for me.

I had a similar choice to make, before putting a deposit down on a V6 S last week.

For me, the V6 S sounds better than the V8 as I like the high pitched noise and for me a better driving experience as can use more of the power more of the time.

I also think the V8 is depreciating at a much faster rate than the V6 S if that is something to consider.

My previous car that has made way for the Jag was a C63 performance pack plus with 487 BHP so certainly no stranger to V8s but genuinely feel the V6 S is the better all round car.

the V8S has stopped depreciating for now

I could have bought an Approved top spec V8 S with 5,000 miles in December for £47k .... they will be the same price some July

I agree. It's almost a default choice to WANT the V8 however I found the v6s to sound more akin to the high end tone of say a Ferrari 360 v8 on start up as opposed to say the TVR esque tone of the v8s (which to be fair is equally as nice). The sound is superb and the power feels good and manageable on the v6s. Enough to step out should you wish and manageable to power through a corner.
Drive both. Either way it's win win.
Make sure you knock the auto lever to the left into sports mode and use the paddles as it sounds different again especially when changing gear!

Thanks guys, some good advice there.

Think I have found a dealer that has both, so will try and get over there for a test drive, If it was my one hoon car, then I feel the better balanced V6S would be the best option, however I'm fortunate enough to have a more track focused car as well, so not ultimately so essential.

Should be interesting comparison.

I'm a little confused, I can't see how the V8s is as rare as everyone's been making out - currently on auto trader there are a total of 19 of them for sale, various different prices, various different specs and miles. I hardly call that rare.
It would be really interesting to see what the sales figures were like for the first 3 years, granted the majority would have been v6.

It will be really interesting to see what happens to the prices over the next 12 months, the gap between V6 and V8 is most definitely getting closer.
I've been seriously tempted by a V6, but I'm now seriously considering hanging onto my current car until towards the end of the summer just to see if the V8 continues to fall.

As pointed out previously, all juicy sports car seem to have a good drop in the first few years, but I think the prices may just be starting to level a little.

production of the V8 S stopped last year.... plenty of 13/63/14 cars ... 64 less so, 15 rare, 65 plates rocking horse poo

So they will become rarer and rarer

Couldn't find a V8S to test drive, so next best thing was V8R coupe. Big mistake. Want one now lol.

It would have to be the V8 for me. Purely because I took on a V6S recently in my old XJR and had to back off the throttle a bit as I was quicker. And yes this V6S driver was trying very hard to shake me . Ok it was a DC and roundabouts and I guess the F type would easily outgun me in the twisties but for me a sports car should be faster than my old saloon.

I've just got back from the piston head Sunday service at Silverstone.
In the first session of cars on the track there was a V8s coupe. As it came past the pit wall the sound on overrun was amazing, both my son and I was stood there waiting for it to come past as we really keen to hear what it sounded like.
We then went and sat further around the track to listen to it on heavy throttle and again it sounded awesome, my son's description I think was the best he said it sounded like a Spitfire flying past - now I'm convinced that the v8 has got to be the one I'm going for when I finally make the decision to change my Aston Martin roadster to an F type. I would be perfectly happy with an earlier V8s rather than the V8r.

Now all I need to do is find somewhere I can try one on test drive when the weather picks up a bit.

Was actually on the 10:10 session with the F Type Coupe, but didn't have time to check it out properly as was too busy hanging on for dear life trying to keep a XBOW on a wet track wink

Looks stunning
