Hi - I am new to the forum and I am looking to buy the v6 380ps F-type coupe with extras coming to about £67k

I can get a discount of about 10% using carwow which is decent but I have heard of some people getting discounts at 15% and even 20% off list price

does anyone know what type of discount I should work to when negotiating with a dealer - i.e should I try to get more than 10% and what kind of allowances or margins do they operate with ?

does anyone have any examples of what they have achieved and with which dealers - I assume also that for stock cars a better discount can be had

Thanks

The 2017MY pre-facelift V6 F-Types had £10k thrown at them from Jag, plus finance contribution & anything extra you could muster.

I went out in a 400 Sport today. I love the styling, seats and drive, but not the lairy (slightly droaning) exhaust. The first dealer demos are coming online now and have up to £10k off them already with <5k miles.

Good luck & enjoy.

thanks - I have also been out in a 400 and it is nice- the dealer was offering a 12% discount - nearly £9k on the AWD version for a stock car but it was slightly out of my price range

I have heard they are having issues with shifting the F-types but they still stick firm to their prices - I guess 10% is about all I can expect

out of interest would the 400 hold value more than the 380ps r dynamic?

380ps auto coupe RWD
panoramic roof, interior and exterior black pack
Some other extras too nothing major

I would also be interested In a 400 rwd with panoramic roof if I could get near the 20% discount mark as I think these are way over priced

Supply and Demand. You may have Demand, but they have Supply.

And a bucket load of previous finance deals to protect.

10% is still better than the proverbial poke in the eye with the sharp stick - particularly if the starting price is North of £50k.

If you're worried that someone is putatively getting a better deal, remember that Comparison is The Thief of Joy. What you can get is what you are capable of in those circumstances. Someone else might encounter a sales exec with a big hole in their target (and limited time to fix it) while being ready to sign. You will never better them, so worrying that someone might do better is pointless...

Is the 10% discount a cash discount or finance? If it's cash you would normally get a better discount by taking the finance as you get a contribution from JLR and then you. An pay the finance off at the first chance so you don't pay interest

As part of a scheme through previous employers I was offered 20% off direct from JLR on any F-type, about 1 year or so ago. At the same time the locals weren't anywhere near that and Carwow was around 11% (from memory) .

Find a pre-reg that is not selling. I managed a 25% (£21k) discount in May 14. The downside is the spec won't be exactly what you wanted. And it lost another £10k in the next 15 months when I sold it which is why I bought a 2-year old next time.

Prereg means you should insist on getting the VAT off as a starting point, before moving on to how you aren't interested in the high cost - low value elements if it's spec. smile

I really fancy an F Type. I’ve been playing with the configurator and can’t believe the options that should be standard for a car this price.

They even want £60 extra for vanity mirrors on the sun visors.

Go and look at the Porsche Cayman / 911 configurator and come back with that should be standard for the price sentence.

Yes, I have looked at the 911 configurator and there’s plenty of options.

For me charging extra for vanity mirrors is ridiculous, they’re standard on almost all cheap budget models. I know it sounds daft but that puts me off the car.

And back in the real world if you really want one then when negotiating with the dealer, if they are important to you, ask for them to be thrown in and they will do it. Spec the car on Carwow and get dealer quotes from all over and you will find that with the discount offered most of the options you want will end up being included for free in the price. Currently easy to get at least 10% discount so on say 60k that’s 6k to spend on options before you even pass the retail price.

Thanks Craig, that’s helpful and worth remembering that discounts are available for the Jaguar but unlikely on the Porsche. Anyway I’m not buying/ordering yet, looking around for an order in the new year.

I still have to say that I was appalled to see the vanity mirrors on the options list tho. It really does look like penny pinching.

Depends what Porsche you are looking at. They don’t discount generally but they are open to throwing in free options which is in itself a discount really. I got nearly £2000 of options included in the list price when I bought my last one.

The options list is crazy, I was worn out just looking at it, so I went with a 9 month old car with over 10k of options on it. Let someone else take the first hit. Had it 2 months & love the car.

I’ve been offered this week a new SVR at £96k. A 10-20% discount is probable on that price.
