Battery causing squeaking auxillary belt - XJR X308

Old school trick with squealing belts is a smear of old style brake fluid .
Some of the new belts need a bit of warmth in them to give them the suppleness to grip properly.

Update on this ongoing squealing belt.

The car now has an upgraded crank pulley and belt, it started happily yesterday when I collected it from the garage. Started it this morning and the belt is squealing again aaaaarrrggghhhh !

I am now going through a method of elimination, the first stop is replacing the pulley on the alternator and servicing it.

I cannot think of another way of doing it....

I had a similar situation on a Volvo until my brother suggested fitting a genuine Volvo belt and the noise stopped. Apparently not all belts are equal.

I agree, genuine all the way. This thing damaged 3 genuine belts

Old thread...but OP, how did all this end, did you fix the problem?!

No I never did get this resolved. I replaced a lot of items and it still squeals on start up.

How annoying for ya!

I only asked as my STR has a bit of a belt squeal/chirp. I been told the cold/dap weather doesn’t help so as I’ve only had it a short time, I guess I’ll see what it’s like in the summer! It does seem to go when the engine is warm though.

Anyway, I’ve currently got bigger problems. It appears my alternator is dead. She is currently sat at a Jag specialist awaiting diagnosis ;(
