I've just ordered a new XF my first foray into Jaguar ownership following a too tempting at deal to resist. Will take delivery in March.

I'm mildly concerned about a couple of practical issues. The main one is the boot coming from a hatch, the loading area looks a little narrow, will it take a pram/buggy OK? I assume plenty of saloon drivers have kids and manage perfectly fine. If another kid comes along worst case I'll invest in a roof box.

We've got a dog, however he's on his way out. My wife's family are a 6 hour drive away he can't really get in the boot any more without being lifted in and out so he tends to get boarded in kennels when we visit. Worst case if needed will get a harness so he can sit in the back, think he'd be too heavy to lift up into a roof box wink. Didn't want to restricted to getting something that may only become less than ideal for a one off trip here and there.

Cheers

I too have ordered my first Jaguar, an XF that I get in the next few weeks.

Last 4 years I've had a 5 series, which has a similar size and shape of boot; it has 60/40 split rear seats and I've carried all sorts in it. Huge plant pots on the rear seats, several pairs of skis, lengths of timber, boxes of rubbish to the tip; you name it.

If I had a really large load I'd rent a van but haven't needed to yet.

The XF has 40/20/40 split seats and I think it'll be fine. I've also ordered a boot liner and sill protector. I had a liner in the 5 but not the sill protector.

With the middle of the seats down I would think the boot would be fine for a dog, unless it's a Great Dane!

You'll be fine. Our Lab travelled on the rear seat of my XF many times - indeed she settled down quicker than when she was in the boot of my partners A3 hatchback.Just needs a bed or rug to protect the leather from the claws.

When it arrives let me know how you find it-which engine did you go for?

Will do. I've gone for a Portfolio, 25T in Corris grey with light oyster.

I thought about an E Coupe but no one had a 300 or 400 demo. I booked a test in a 540i SE but when I turned up they only had 520d M Touring. I was quite underwhelmed by that but more to the point got the feeling I was keeping the sales guy from something else.

Called into local Jag dealer and was given a short drive in a 25T R-S. I was very impressed. ( last Jag I drive was a 90s XJ).

Went back and borrowed the car for a while two days later and ordered one on the day.

Compared with my 530d Luxury, adaptive drive, full comfort pack, I felt the XF rode better, had a little less tyre noise, less engine noise and the steering and handling are significantly better. The XF was on 20" wheels too. The 530 has 18".

I've been told it will be built next week and I should get it by mid Dec.

Incidentally, anyone know if the XE wheels are same offset and PCD as the XF? I'm looking for aftermarket winter wheels. Found them for XE but not XF.

I got my XF a year ago, and coming from a hatchback I've found practicality to be a bit of a disappointment (albeit one that's offset by significant gains in luxury and performance!). My wife's Polo has turned out to be better for loading large objects (like tables, fridges etc).

I don't think the XF's any worse than any other similar-sized saloons, and something like a buggy that folds down should get in and out easily. If carrying large things is a priority perhaps the estate version would be better for you?

Word of caution. The XF only has split fold seats as standard if you buy an S or, I think, a Portfolio.

Boot is pretty cavernous. I’d easily have got our pushchair in there.

Dog I have no ideas, but it’s a fully enclosed boot.

Yep that's right it's more a case of where the dog will go if/when required, the Mrs Leon will be going in February so we will have an alternative but it's not likely to be something big enough for longer journeys.

Another here just ordered my first Jag. An XF 25T R Sport, delivery March. Looking forward to getting back to a petrol after six years of Diesel company cars. (Just hiding my head in the sand when it comes to the BIK I will have to pay).

Are you guys waiting until March for the new reg?

It's just that lead time is supposed to be 8 weeks, which I'm told mine will be and you seem to be talking 13 weeks or more.

Not specifically that's just when my current company car goes back.

I thought all models came with the potential to have folding seats, but some didn't have the handles installed as standard. May be wrong about that on the latest XF though...

Seems regressive, my 2011 Premium Luxury had them, as did both S-Types before it.

I believe that’s still the case, although I haven’t poked around mine to check as they’re already fitted.

Not really. PL was 2nd from top of the range on the mk1 XF. So only it and Portfolio got them.

S and Portfolio are joint top of the range now, although you can only get S with a proper engine.

Everything else in both models it was an option.

All MK1 XF had folding seats. It became optional on lower models after the 2011 facelift (even though all cars had the folding seats, they didn't have the handles that operate them). Can be retrofitted tho.

Seems ludicrous the limit the flexibility of such an expensive car for the sake of 2 plastic handles. Doh.

Ah, fair enough. I had a 'classic' mk1 PL before my current mk2 S so I've never been without the folding seats. Assumed the 'classic' and facelift mk2 were the same.
