Can any give me any ideas on a small problem I have on my 2007 Jaguar s-type. After a drive, short or long when I shut down the car, you can sit in the driver seat and listen to a kind of musical tunes made from the coolant from under the dashboard. It sounds like an air lock in the system, it can go on for about 5 to 10 min's. I have had the car for around 18 months now, I have driven long distances and never had a problem with the car, with the coolant getting too hot and things.

I would like to here that someone out there has had the problem, and is able to pass on some help or advise.

Is it coolant or just valves fluttering? My 2006 S-Type would make little fluttering noises for a short while after switch off.

Will certainly be the flaps moving and going back to the rest position. Airlocks will also have an effect and sound similar. Unless you have a leak or have had the system emptied recently it will be flaps. Very common on S types and expensive to fix.

They all do that, sir!

Mines done it ever since I got it - ~6 years, 85,000 miles ago. I tell disbelieving passengers that it's a small alien tidying and cleaning the glove box and behind the dashboard...

Our old 2007 S-Type did that too. No problems over the three years of ownership, no coolant loss or overheating, so I wouldn't worry.

Hi
This is the first time I have answered on PistonHead, so I take it I send a global reply to all. The noise is a water type noise for sure. If you filled a glass with water, then blow into the water via a straw, that's the sound I get. It sounds like an air lock problem. I have completed around 7k in the car, and never had any temp' issues, or had to top up the water. It lasts for around 10 mins or so, then stops. Its no real problem, but If I wanted to sell the car at sometime it may cause a concern to the buyer, if you know what I mean.
