Having had a x100 XK8 for about 7 years I have now bagged myself an X150. 2007 in grey with cream interior with 58,000 miles on the clock. It will be arriving on 28th March after the alloys have been refurbed ( the old boy who owned it last must have been a terrible parker as every wheel was kerbed )
Will be keeping the Xk8 too as I would never recoup the money I've spent on it and more importantly the wife likes it !
Will post pictures when it arrives

Oh and another thing that wears more than most cars is the quantity of rubber bush that need replacing. My 8 year old has just failed a MOT on rear shock bush's and suspension arm bushes having excessive play (these are expensive if you go via dealer as they want to replace the whole arm). I guess that's the price you pay for a reasonable ride on 20 inch rims.

What kind of money is it to carry out that job Iain?

I have heard of people using polybushes, but imaging the ride could become too harsh.

Full approximate breakdown of my 2009 XK costs after owning for 4 years & 40Kmiles (to 87K)

1st year
£120 diff oil seal (to fix leaking diff - didn’t work)
£500 2nd hand diff fitted - specialist
£500 Gearbox service due to lurching - specialist
£300 front disc/pads
£250 service
£550 tyres

2nd year
£350 Main dealer service

3rd year
£350 Main dealer service

4th year (this year - paying today in fact frown - independent)
£250 tyres
£300 Rear disc/pads
£300 2off lower shock bush
£500 1 new suspension arm (due to bush rubber – you can get this refurbed for about 200quid at a specialist but my car was stranded MOTless)

To do
£250 Main dealer service
£220 Front tyres
£70 battery
£120 wheel bearing?
£40 aspirator

I’ve also spent £300 quid on an amp, speakers and sub unit and probably about £30 quid on bulbs.

But as with all cars the killer is depreciation. I bought mine at 5 years old for £23.5K and its now worth £11K trade in maybe on a sunny day. Sounds a big drop for a 5 to 9 year old car but as they are £60K + new, that’s just normal in percentage terms! (another 5K to go before it bottoms out?)

So what's that in total? I’m classifying £660 as failures and £4310 as service items. So £5K on fixing, £12.5K depreciation, so £17.5K/4=£4400 per annum or £360 per month which would get you a lease on a Audi S3/Golf R/nice beemer and that’s with not mentioning the £2K car tax.....

(you could easily knock £1K off my service bill if I’d used a specialist more – but they are 3 hour round trip for me)

That is stunning and such a lot of car for the money.

Headed straight to the classifieds and realised that for the money I paid for my 4 series, I could have had one of these beauties.

Love those gates!

I have had a BMW 650 for 7 years now. After 3 years, I was getting to like the looks, until a friend parked his XK5.0 beside mine, knock out blow for the 650.
Reviews on this thread have been really useful, Thank you. Next search on for a Jaaaaag.

Someone told me that X150 was designed as a convertible first, then the coupe. True or urban myth?

Either way for me it has to be the convertible. There's no angle it doesn't look superb from.

I could take or leave the blower; the overall spec is more important to me.

Left a tab open with this on which my wife found last night;

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

You'd think I'd left my match.com profile open given the reaction biggrin

I even dreamt about the day I picked it up last night, only to be woken up for snoring.

I remember reading a review somewhere, which I can't find online, that said every time the XK was compared to the same Aston of it's era it came out on top.

I picked up my XKR (5.0 V8_S) last year and have enjoyed every drive in auto or sport manual (I use daily). I picked up the Speed & Black pack on a new facelift LED lights etc (few extras of 174mph/diff black 20" alloys/ few exterior changes black grille/black where chrome is etc and it had the upgraded plain leather sports seats which are very comfy. (They are now diamond in dynamic). I would highly recommend one and so far have only seen a few around here.

The winter mode has been great and got me through some bad roads and I have confidence in this now. I have always wanted a V8 and have no regrets. Running costs to be expected and no more than any other V8 this size and powerful.

As with a few others on here I am also on the very helpful Jaguar Forum for any questions they all seem very knowledgeable about the XK/R.

Perhaps the price difference clinches it. My 2006 XK is worth about £18K; a 2006 DB9 would be £35K+. That's a lot extra to pay for the badge and space-age interior.

I have less problems with weird electronics on the Jags than the Mercs.
If you've got someone who can fire it up or take it for a short drive occasionally it would probably help.

The only weird issues I've had on my 2010 XKR convertible are that if I have it switched on without the engine running for too long it moans about the battery state and has since I bought it which might have been 4 years ago. And occasionally the motors that drive the swivelling head lights get stuck and the lights stay in the central position and there's an annoying warning light on the dash. Doesn't happen too often and normally goes away when you next start her up.
OK, so now I've had total weirdness. The first I knew was I got a notification that something wasn't right just as I was heading off to bed, and went to take a look in the garage. There was a persistent click click click noise coming from under the bonnet. I went back into the house to get the keys and when I got back out the clicking noises had stopped but now the indicators were flashing weakly and everything else was dead. It took me a short while to find where to put the emergency key (the manual was locked in the car), the alarm didn't go off which was both a good and a bad thing. Sticking the key fob in it's hole didn't do anything. Not enough power to open the boot, so off comes the rear number plate and open up using the key there. Connected up a battery charger where I normally connect the conditioner, there was a flash and then nothing. I tried another charger, still nothing so went looking for another earth point to connect to. I probably need to find out whether I've blown a fuse somewhere when trying to connect the charger. Near the +ve terminal in the boot there is what looks like a black metal bolthead stuck to the inside of the body work, this is the earthing point I've always used in the past. I assumed it was connected to the body and would then be directly connected to the battery. I ended up this time earthing through a point by the rear lights.
Good power going to the car, bad, the alarm now goes off (it's about midnight, but at least it's in the garage).
It took several minutes before there was enough power in the electrics for the key fob to be able to work in it's slot, great the alarm stops. Hmmmm the key fob won't release now, that took about 10 minutes before it seemed to have enough power for mechanism to release it. Oh well.
Nothing was left on in the car. It had had a good run the previous weekend, so only been standing for 6 days. It's often lasted longer.

So I guess it's time for a new battery.

Any recommendations?
I should also try and find an auto sparks to fit me nice point to connect in the conditioner.

Oh, and after putting it all back together again and fully charging the battery the main screen just flashed off and on constantly. To get it to behave I needed to pull fuses 14 & 31 from the fuse box between the rear seats. Bloody computers! It would be nice if there was an easier way to reboot the damn thing.

On the Jaguar forum everybody raves about "AGM" batteries: https://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=10637...
I fitted one and have had no issues with it.
